The Defiance Thread - News about the Show and Game

I'm pretty sure Irisa's look was one of regret more than anything else.

Regret? Didn't see that. Boredom more like it.

I am still holding on to she's alien and we don't know for sure. In all her social interactions she comes in an initial attack too hard for this human raised in Los Angeles. And then she backs down way to rapidly. It is what I mean when I said she runs hot and cold so far.

I don't know why, but I was getting a strange Fallout: New Vegas feeling while watching this episode.

So now it's Fallout: The Alien Nation of Deadwood. :techman:

Really enjoyed this episode. We got some interesting world building, and some good stuff in both the A and B stories. I knew we obviously weren't supposed to like the E-Rep Ambassador, but I didn't expect her to be full on evil. I also liked the backstory stuff we got for Irisa. I'm not quite sure what to make of her hooking up with the Deputy guy at the end.

I thought she just looked confused in that final shot.

I'm just not sure what she's confused about... her human lover, her Castalon (sp?) torturer, her biological parents, her human "father's" reaction to recent events?

I was ticked off that our lawgiver turned his prisoner over to one of the ambassador's minions. What a rookie move.

Maybe it was just "I had no idea the humans were so small.. shit."

Considering her very detached expression, I took it to mean that it was just an emotional outburst, but she doesn't have feelings for him. She's too full of anger and conflicting values to be involved with anyone. She was just using him at that moment and her mind was clearly elsewhere.

Not sure how I feel about the DJ bit. That doesn't feel right; I can't imagine his parents would approve of something like that. They would probably find it too "human" and undignified.

How do we know that, though? We don't know enough yet about their culture's values to know how they'd feel about this. Maybe in Castithan culture, music is a highly prized and spiritual thing.

We saw a bunch of Catithans at a party in the pilot, and I'm pretty sure we've seen them in NeedWant, so I don't really see them having much of a problem with that kind of stuff.

She definitely looks bored shitless after they finish the love humping. It's very obvious and I think we are supposed to see it.

And speaking of expressions..

Why is this guy sleeping so peacefully with a little smile on his face when his wife has betrayed him, caused the death of his co-husband, planned for him to be expendable and now he's marooned in the desert and possibly gonna die?

I keep hearing the Who: "I'm free, yeah I'm freeeeee..."

I thought he was just peacefully sleeping because was just too stupid to be worried about much of anything. Not the sharpest knife in the drawer, that one.

Perhaps his mother recognizes it as a necessary community service to the town and has convinces his father, who goes along with it despite any disapproval he might feel.

Considering that he is a constant source of disapproval by his father, right down to dying his hair, I don't see why this is a particular issue about him. Dating a human chick, dying his hair, reveling in human culture, operating a pirate radio station... it all kind of goes together, neh?

Brothers in Arms: This jumbled thing won me over more than all the rest of them. I like a lot of differing agendas. Go the Votan Collective!

Also I'm a sucker for the Firefly aesthetic. I can so see myself living in a converted freight car on a dirt street with aliens selling exotic vegetables outside my door. I feel like I was born to live like that and I have been denied it.

(Firefly was of course one million times more interesting looking.)
