Who is repurchasing to convert to blu ray

Currently, I have every trek movie and series on DVD, as well as almost all DVD episode collections, and Star Tre 2009 on Blu ray. Fortunately, the only VHS Trek I replaced were the movies, as I never purchased the episodes on VHS.

Now that we are starting to see the movies and various series starting to be released on Blu Ray, I am curious how many people previously purchased Trek on VHS and DVD, and how many have purchased on Blu Ray. Also, of those who have or bought the Blu Ray versions, still have their trel VHS or DVDs. Finally, how many people will not because they already have Trek on DVD or even VHS.

I have movies 1-8 on VHS, 1-10 on DVD and 11 on blu-ray. I'm sticking with the DVDs for now as some of the blu-rays have poor quality transfers, if they ever get remastered I'll upgrade to blu-ray.

I have all of TOS and TAS on DVD but I'm not a big TOS fan so I'm sticking with the DVDs for now. I have all of TNG on DVD and I'm upgrading them to blu-ray as they're released. I also have all of DS9 on DVD and I'll probably upgrade them to blu-ray if the series gets remastered.

Finally, how many people will not because they already have Trek on DVD or even VHS.

I fall into this category. I taped every episode and movie on VHS (well, bought the films, and selected episodes in order to get better quality copies), up til 2003 when I started converting my entire video library (not just Star Trek) to DVD, a process that, ten years on, is still ongoing. I now have every episode and movie on DVD, and am pleased that they are far more watchable than my old VHS versions, most of which were taped directly off the air in first run.

I have no plans to ever convert to Blue Ray. I'm happy with my DVD's.

Interesting poll. In the 2000s made a list of movies I wished to have in DVD because that was, imho, THE long-lasting, digital, high definition, archival medium. It was mostly 80s movies. Then I lost interest and never bought all the movies in the list. I have the first 6 Star Trek movies.

I almost bought a bluray because of TRON, but nah.

Blu-ray is like crack. Once you've seen one good transfer, you're hooked!

I have yet to do the Blu-Ray thing so my Trek collection is divided between DVD and VHS.

I got rid of all my VHS a fair while ago. I have all of Trek on DVD, and am replacing it piece by piece with the Blu-rays.

It took me about 8 years to buy it all on dvd. A lot of that was slowly replacing the Trek I had already bought on VHS. There's no way I'm starting that all over again.

I did break down and replace all my VHS copies of the movies with DVDs when our local Blockbuster had its going-out-of-business sale. Just seemed like a good opportunity to upgrade on the cheap . . . .

Recently brought TOS and the movies all on blu-ray, but before that I only had TNG, DS9 and Voyager on DVD. Yet to add Enterprise to my collection. It will be later in the year. Yet to decide on what format. Before I brought the blu-rays, I also had three movies on DVD.

I've outgrown all physical forms of media.

Unless I can just download it onto a hard drive, I'm not really interested any more.

I won't pay for a blu ray discs, I would pay for blu ray quality downloads I can download and keep to play on whatever I want though.

The only problem with downloading to a HD is if the HD crashes you could potentially lose dozens of films etc.. If you damage a DVD/blu-ray disc you only have to replace that.

I suppose, but it's a risk I'm willing to take.

Although on xbox live, once you buy a game, you can redownload it as often as you want. So you'd have to do a fair bit of self sabotage to ever really lose anything.

And you can't damage a digital copy.

I can also buy a fairly substantial hardrive for about £40-£60 to back everything up if no such online back up exists.

I own some of the movies and DS9 S1-7 on DVD. Only when it comes to Blueray would I consider buying a Blueray player--DVD is fine for me for now.

I dont do drugs either . But DVD resolution is fine for me. Any better and you start to see pimples in actors and bad things in the special effects. If not, everything has to be upscaled, remastered, retouched or re-something.

Also, nothing is cheap. I'd have to buy a new TV too. IF they would give a very good rebate for the old DVDs, I'd consider.

All above is only IMHO, of course.

I've got them all, going way back to the VHS tapes. I keep them more for the 'collecting value' than any other reason (I've got some VHS machines but I'm not likely to use the tapes as the prime source when I want to watch an episode).

That's what a lot of people say DVD is fine, then they upgrade to blu-ray and generally don't look back.
