Recently, iTunes has started to randomly pause during playback. It also takes forever to load, when before it opened up quick. I've searched around and people have had the same problem but I can't find a solution.

Has anyone else had a similar problem and maybe a solution?

It's often helpful to know things like OS name, OS version, main memory quantity and application version.

Pauses playing audio, video or both? If video what resolution?

My mistake. I'm using Windows 7 SP 1 64 bit with 3 gigs of RAM. I checked iTunes to see if it was up to date and it is.

It pauses playing audio, I haven't used it to play video.

Hopefully that will be relevant information.

Is your HDD running out of space by any chance? If you are low on free space then you might experience lag when readying from the disk if it's very fragmented.

I have around 25 gigs free out of a 220 gig hard drive. I've cut down on the number of programs I have running in the background, but it will still do it even when it's the only program running. I've even had task manager running to see if there was a spike or anything unusual in my system performance when it does stop, but nothing. I have no idea what is causing it.

Edit: I checked to see if my drive is fragmented, but it is not. 0% fragmented.

Have you tried reinstalling it? I don't know specifically about iTunes but sometimes that is helpful when applications become unruly.

That will be my last resort. If I do re-install it, would I lose any of my album artwork or no?

I'd research it on the internet first but I think no. I know artwork can be embedded in the mp3 itself and if not the artwork probably lies in the iTunes library. Be sure to back up your library but I would think an uninstall should leave that intact. Again, please check online and verify that.

I also think you can uninstall iTunes but tell it not to delete any artwork or other files. Not 100% sure on that, but most software packages give you that option.

Android doesn't usually run PCs. lol.

Which is what the OP is talking about, iTunes on a Windows 7 machine. lol

Did you bother reading the thread at all? lol

    Have a nice day. lol

How large is your iTunes library? I have heard of some people running into problems with libraries exceeding 20gb. I suspect that there may be some kind of fragmentation issue. If you have a spare computer, you could try copying it there and see if the same problem happens. Also, make a backup of the library files and then try having iTunes rebuild the catalog.

I can't stand how clunky iTunes can become. For me, I don't have any audio stopping issue but it takes almost a minute to start up before I can start using it. I don't have any issues like this with any other software on my laptop (Windows Vista Ultimate).

And you can run a PC in iTunes? It's the other way around.

I use Android, and I don't need no stinking itunes. It's just drag and drop. Easiest thing ever. And I have VLC for music and videos.

You won't lose anything (artwork, playlists, play counts, etc) uninstalling and reinstalling. Your iTunes library won't be removed.

I doubt that's the problem. My library is 130GB and I don't have any problems.

^ Yeah, I don't think library size has anything to do with it.

IIRC, disk fragmentation is also not going to be a problem, most current OSes take care of that automatically.
