I've always wanted to know how they work. But I guess I never will...It was? In what way?That doesn't explain why the Kelvin seems more advanced than even the TNG-era, even before the Narada appeared.

Magnets.
*sigh*

No kindergarten

It was? In what way?That doesn't explain why the Kelvin seems more advanced than even the TNG-era, even before the Narada appeared.Memory Alpha seems to support this theory guys;
"Star Trek screenwriter Roberto Orci (in a post on Ain't It Cool News [3] as well as in an interview with Star Trek Magazine[4]) and J.J. Abrams (in an interview with MTV, conducted between the two aforementioned statements from Orci [5]) established a reason why technology in the alternate reality appears to be more advanced than it is during the same period in the prime reality; scans of the 24th century Narada, taken by the Kelvin, were brought back to Starfleet by the survivors on the Kelvin's shuttles."

The Dreadnought is the same colour as the Narada was. Coincidence, or an ubership built from reverse-engineered technology?
"Thanks to reverse-engineered technology from the future, we've finally unlocked the key to manufacturing black paint."

I wonder if "USS Vengeance" is just a name tossed out to keep the real name hidden.Wow, it certainly looks monsterous. "USS Star Empire" sounds a lot cooler than "USS Vengeance" though.
I see starfleet have been busy and that starship has balls !!!
That is one ugly ship. Bleh.

I made this lightened version of the image to see all the details of the ship.
