Ah, cool. I agree. To me, his two episodes along with that stupid cowboy western one were the worst episodes in series 7. After two of his episodes being pretty bad, I hope he never goes near doctor who again.
I thought it was excellent. Good atmosphere, annoying pronunciation of Metebelis aside it was highly entertaining.
The prof's age is ok-ish (apologies for typos, posting from phone). Dougray scott is late 40s, if prof was studenr co-opted into war at 18 he'd be about 50 in 1974. Butmaybe looking a bit youngger...
I'm still processing that, think I need another viewing. At the very least, it was trying to do something different. Certainly had some atmosphere and even tension though, probably the eeriest episode since Midnight. Very cool visually. Bonus points for low sonic abuse.
Momentarily fun. Third act, after the momentary confusion and amusement, is more tasteless in retrospect than Victory of the Daleks, that was a figure of speech, Victory has a great balance, and somehow even blander too, with the romance having only the 'depth' of Blink yet a total lack of gravitas. Good story told badly. First act what little it had was kind of great with the character dynamics and how it all looked. Clara went a bit wrong with the long snarky comment in the first act that I forgot, and the cow comment however amusing.
I may hate Clara. "Ghostbusters!" I may hate her a lot. So was this episode made before or after they decided to splice NuWho with Call the Midwife for red nose day?
They must have been trolling us with that line because all I could think about was that horrific 10 / Rose scene
I quite liked that. Properly creepy monster that didn't turn out to be CGI for a change. So good suspenseful moments, a bit of added mystery to the Doctor, and for once, guest characters I actually gave a damn about. Nice to see the shows back on track. I was worried for awhile there.
i thought it was good. not quite up there with last week and had weird pacing, but this season's starting to pick up a bit now
I enjoyed it. If you grade it in a curve this episode rates above average. On a side note it would be nice to see the 8th Doctor appear this season. He doesn't have to be in the 50th anniversary story, they can sneak him into any episode.
At least one would hope he's talking about the same planet & just mis-pronounced it. Anything but Doctor Who? How is that contraption still working if the TARDIS left?
It was ok. Liked the creepiness atmosphere and the stuff between Clara and the Doctor in the Tardis was good, but I couldn't entirely get into the house part of the story. Looking foward to next week's episode as it seems like that will actually take place on the TARDIS.
Any Supernatural fans expect to see a Winchester when the Doctor went to Limbo, er the pocket universe?
Very good and atmospheric episode but a bit shy of excellent, largely due to the final act. I loved the ghost story even when it evolved away from being a ghost story but I found the ending tacked on, rushed, and poorly edited. That being said, I loved all of the small references, both in and out of Doctor Who universe, although I was disappointed by the mispronunciation of Metebellis 3 (and weren't the crystals a darker shade of blue?). In regards to the avatar, I look at as though the TARDIS reverted to that mode because of her aversion towards Clara. Could be wrong but it makes sense to me right now. I'm really looking forward to next week's episode!
While it was the weakest episode of the season it was still enjoyable. I'm just glad it went a little bigger than just a ghost story, with the journey into the pocket universe, and the time traveling hops. Also, I geeked out at the (mispronounced) Metebelis III reference, and the entropy/pocky universe of E-Space and the Eye of Harmony.
I really liked that it wasn't another alien invasion. It was 1974, (If UNIT wasn't set in the future, which it was.) wouldn't it have been a stunning aside if the Doctor stole the Blue Crystal he gave Jo Jones for a wedding present while she was honeymooning.
On a side note, I couldn't help but think that this kind of adventure was right up the alley for The Third Doctor, Jo, The Brig and the whole U.N.I.T. crew. Would have been fun of The Doctor had made some small reference to them, thus confusing the U.N.I.T. dating even more so!
