Balok's "disguised" form was so goofy looking, like he was permanently surprised.

The reason they are so mad and antagonistic in the new Trek game: the Vulcans stole their clothes.

    Vulcans are jerks.

Those numerous species that looked just like human actors but for their odd foreheads.

Totally ridiculous. Is the Xindi-Aquatics. Whales with humanoid faces. WTF?

Over on DS9, Fallit Kot from Melora was similarly afflicted.

Don't remember their names, but the race with six nostrils from Warlord were pretty goofy too.

Glad you brought that up, because that's the exact same thing I thought when I first saw the Aquatics. Interesting idea, the "carting around a vast water supply in a spaceship" analogous to how we need to bring air with us in space, but oh so impractical... the added mass, you know, among other problems (like waste, food, etc).

Because mass is such a huge factor in the weightless environment of space. ;)

Human starships have air filters, waste disposal plumbing where they recycle poop into boots, and bring and store prepared food in all that air environment. Why would doing the same in water be any more difficult?

I'd be much more interested to learn just how the heck they evolved to learn to use things like fire, electronics and such living under water. That's the biggest flaw in them I see, though it's possible the other Xindi races sorta forced the concepts on them or assisted in some way.

As for the faces? Well at least they're note humans with funny foreheads so I can give that one a pass.

Being "weightless" has no effect on mass. Water's mass is 800 times that of air. A cubic metre of air is 1.25 kilos (abut a loaf of bread), the same volume of water is a metric tonne.

Put the impulse engines of a runabout on the Enterprise D, and they will (eventually) move the ship around.

Two otherwise identical ships, one with air in it's internal space, the second with water. The one with water will be "loggy" in maneuvers, it's inertial dampeners will have to work hard, as will it's structural integrity field.

Oh well. They must have found a solution, because it seemed to work fine in the series.

I vaguely remember the Xindi from the first time I tried to watch ENT. There were several different races that all evolved on the same planet, right? I remember the primates, and the reptilians because they looked just like the evil aliens from Galaxy Quest. But I don't recall what the aquatics looked like.

I thought the Reptilians were far more ridiculous-looking than the aquatics. They didn't really look like Star Trek aliens at all. Whether that's a good or a bad thing I can't decide.

They were more like manatees than whales, I thought. Makes the faces much easier to swallow.

And it's not just that they have ships filled with water, but big, open spaces filled with water! Do they really need that much room? Maybe they don't need crew quarters and such, but that just makes it even worse - they could just shrink the ship that much more.

As for the waste and food, they are aquatic creatures, so they would be used to swimming in each others' wastes and food scraps. Their water is rather yellow...

Air is fairly easy to compress into containers and taken along, since what is breathed by humans is but a small percentage of the actual air content. Much harder to deal with oxygenated water. Let's see an aquatic getting about in a spacesuit! ;)

That too! The whole premise we were given was that the Xindi were on the verge of wiping each other out, but that future species united them together. It suggests they were all at similar levels of technology, otherwise the aquatics would be completely inconsequential... swimming about with no electronic devices and weaponry.

Look at the variety of mammals on land versus the ocean. It just seems like air breathing land creatures are more disposed to advanced technology than sea faring mammals.

I like the Gorn from the ST video game commercial. He gets in a fight with William Shatner. Does a few arm swings and then has to sit down because he's out of breath.
