More Star Wars films announced

In truth what I really want from a SW movie, tv show etc. is actual Star Wars, something which, despite being called Star Wars, SW has never really delivered.

I want lots of grand-fleet ship-to-ship space combat and all that.

The closest we ever got was the Trench Run and the ROTJ battle over Endor.

Wars are not just the large conflicts of the kind you refer to. Take WW2: would you consider sniper mission any less a part of the war than the sea battles, or ground troop conflicts? All of it counts.

The "Star" in the title is more a "science-fictiony" reference, and the fact the story covered several worlds, than the strict concept of space battles between ships.

Even in ESB the Executor served as nothing more than window dressing - look how big and powerful my ship is! But it never actually did anything. I'd have loved to see it firing broadsides into an enemy fleet, but nope.

Your "how big and powerful my ship is" was the point. After we were introduced to regular SDs in A New Hope, in order to illustrate that the Imperials were still a formidable force (even without a Death Star), the Executor slowly cut through space like a neverending threat one could not escape. That worked well in the pursuit of the Falcon.

I want capital ship space combat with strategy, maneuver, and the laws of physics reasonably well obeyed.

In Star Wars?? Even ST falls short in that department.

I don't want the antics of Jedi supermen hogging over half the screen time.

While I agree that the oversaturation of Jedi heroics seemed like Lucas catering to fanwanking over lightsaber duels and "badass" Sith, I appreciated their presense when limited, as in the original trilogy. The Force users were still the game changers of the galaxy, but other characters played a strong part, too (unlike the prequels).

Doubtless i have more chance of winning the lottery.

 Probably.

Star Wars originally had a scene where Luke looks up into the sky and sees the battle between the Blockade Runner and the Star Destroyer. It looks like stars having a war. ;)

Oswalt's always full of great little ideas. Anyone here familiar with his "George Lucas Prequels" bit from his standup act a number of years back?

One of the funniest standup routines I've heard since the great Mitch Hedberg left us.

Harrison Ford is the best.

"She was my wife, you Wookiee sack of shit!"

"I'll see you in hell!"

I wonder why Lucas deleted that scene?

In terms of what I'd like to see in the Wars extra films, I'd love to see more of the back story on Palpatine when he was younger and becoming a Sith.

Both that scene as well as the Biggs/Anchorhead sequence would have added to character development and atmosphere in the original film. I know he cut them for time as well as story pacing reasons and I understand, but the very first shot of Luke along with the Tosche Station scene with Biggs, Camie and Fixer are so much better than a lot of the junk he deliberately left in the Prequels.

I look forward to the further adventures of Jar Jar and Nien Nunb when they team up for that buddy comedy.

They should do a political thriller starring Senator Binks.

 One thing that is guaranteed IMO to be in any of these films are adorable creatures that can be part of Disney's merchandising plan for younger children.

Anyone want to take bets on whether or not the Ewoks show up again?

I'm cool with Ewoks. The only mistake with them was tying them directly into the war with the Empire.

They aren't so cuddly when you remember just exactly what 3PO had to talk them out of doing to Luke, Han, and Chewie and then wonder what happened to all the Storm Trooper bodies and possibly the prisoners because they had to get the helmets they were using as drums from somewhere

Or to put it basically why the Rebels should avoid the meat at the victory celebration
