For a continuity that is based somewhat in reality yet kind of feels like a comic book continuity...I've always considered the View Askewinverse an impressive feat.

Any film series that can go from the oft-heavy and relationship-based dramedy of Chasing Amy to the otherwordly mythology and fantastic events of Dogma and then careen headfirst into the surreal slapstick of JASB and STILL make some sort of rough overall sense is one to be applauded.

While you're right, the majority of it is retconned, I did make one mistake. Alyssa was a character as of Clerks, at least in passing. Heather mentions her when telling Dante who she is. Ah Heather Jones, one character we never saw again, I would have liked to see her exiting the theater with Trisha and Alyssa.

Anyways, I just watched Clerks. As I've mentioned many times before in this thread, for me the View Askewniverse begins and ends with Dante and Randal, they are the two best characters that Smith created (outside of Jay and Bob), and any chance to see them in something new is a joy. Along with the movie I did rewatch the "lost scene" and also watched the short film "The Flying Car" which I remember watching back when it premiered on The Tonight Show.

You're right. Alyssa's mentioned when her sister and Rick Derris (whose name also recurs throughout the Askewniverse as the years go by) are talking to Dante about lifting weights, being healthier and their old school days together. Forgot about that, thanks for mentioning it.

That's the scene where Heather and Rick Derris hear about the cigarettes being sold to the little kid and both of them think Dante did it.

You know, I'm starting to get the impression this thread is mostly you and I trying to one up each other in random View Askewniverse trivia ;)

Not that I have an issue with it, I love talking about these films.

I think my favorite scene out of all six films, is Holden and Alyssa talking about events that happened in the previous two movies. Up until that point it wasn't really a shared universe. That movie solidified the fact and made it real.

And you are right on the money, going from the near dead seriousness of 'Chasing Amy' to the slightly out there "Dogma" and following that up with a live action cartoon then segueing into another extremely realistic film (Clerks II, nootch) and making it all still feel like the same universe. Pretty impressive.

I wasn't supposed to post in this thread today! ;)

Also Randal's always been my favourite character outside Jay and Silent Bob.

Just watched Clerks II. Despite the fact I'm a huge fan of the "Jersey Trilogy," this is actually only the third time I've seen Clerks II. For some reason it didn't connect with me in the same way the other's did, until tonight. It does take a while to get going though, but once Jason Lee's character makes his entrance the movie picks up the pace and just keeps getting better and better.

Interesting. We used to have discussions at work about weither Smith's humor was too "Jersey Centric" to play outside of the area as well.

Finished Mallrats. It's probably the one of the bunch I've seen the least and it's been a while. I actually thought it was pretty good. People always knock it so much.

And I totally forgot it was filmed at the Eden Prairie Center. I've actually been there.

I'm originally from New Jersey, Hawthorne to be exact. A little hamlet situated near the Passaic river and not to far from The Garden State Mall.

Fun fact from one of the Mallrats commentary tracks. Fargo began filming in Minnesota at roughly the same time Kevin started shooting at the Eden Prairie Center. There were occasions when the Coen brothers and their crew would be filming a scene not too far away.

Kevin's reminiscing: "Fargo? That'll never be a hit! But you guys stay away from the Eden Praire Mall because that's where we're filming Jason Lee's Mallrats!"

I'm from Illinois, the starting point of Dogma!

Here's a question for everybody: How many of you have been to at least one of the filming locations in any of Kevin's movies?

I went to New Jersey back in 2001 to visit my brother when he was living there. The Quickstop was only about an hour away so we headed over there. One thing I'll say about the place: It's small! The movie really made it look much bigger than it really is.

We also went to Red Bank and visited the Stash and Jacks Music Shoppe across the street where a scene from Chasing Amy was filmed.

^^^^When you visited the Quick Stop was RST Video still open? I thought I heard it was closed down recently (which isn't too surprising considering the way rental shops are going).

The closest I've been I suppose is Minnesota. Never been to any of the filming locations though.
