    TMP uniforms had promise.

TWOK uniforms looked nice at first, but by the end of films, they looked ill fitting and flabby compared to TNG uniforms

Can you imagine what the cast would have looked like in The Undiscovered Country if they were still wearing the TMP unis???????????

TUC may have garnered an NC-17 rating just for Scotty alone!

The colors. Same range as used by the USN for officers' work uniforms in WW2:

    Note 9, 10, 11 and 14.

The rank braid is a simplification of the naval system, and the use of those epaulettes goes back to the USN in the 19th century.

If I remember correctly, one of the problems with the TMP uniforms is that the male cast couldn't sit down in them without risking injury.

    We reach.

For the men I prefer the coveralls worn by various crewmen -- but with pockets and insignia.

For the women I prefer their regular TOS uniforms.

The TOS uniforms would have looked great in TMP, maybe with the addition of pants for the women ala the two pilots. Why did GR have to mess with success?????

When the first publicity stills were coming out with the blue uniforms looking like a baby's footed pajamas, some aggrieved kid wrote a letter to STARLOG that ended with "God Save Star Trek!"

    Agreed.

And as much as I liked the improvements to their tunics in S3, there is something about the velour S1/S2 variants that to me is unbeatable.....even if inferior and somewhat uneven.

    I also agree.

I think later books that stated the uniforms were an algae based material would have went beter with the velour uniforms than the polyester.

The truth for me is I couldn't tell the difference between them until I got the dvds. :alienblush:

Does anyone know about the TOS uniform patterns in the STAR FLEET TECHNICAL MANUAL?

Are they sourced from the William Ware Theiss patterns, or did Franz Joseph get them from somewhere else?

And are the FJ patterns any good for making uniforms that look right?

For me I always liked the velour look better than the 3rd season material.
