This isn't even about being a luddite. If you want the old DVD's there are a ton of them being sold on ebay for pennies by people that have taken the plunge with HD. There should simply be no market for an expensive version of what has gone before.

The only thing that I like about these new covers is that they went with Riker with beard and Deanna in Starfleet uniform, which is how I always think of them whenever I look back at the characters.

I don't get the criticisms levelled here about the Encounter At Farpoint version of Deanna Troi being on the season 7 set, either. After all, isn't that exactly how she appears in the past segments of All Good Things...?

I'm not sure how these can possibly be profitable though. Not when anyone who wants them could snap up second-hand original DVDs for a fraction of the price. On the other hand, if nobody actually buys these, the few that do survive being pulped as excess stock will probably be rare collector's items worth lots of money in decades to come... :thinks:

Ah, well, in that case it's unforgivable. Unforgivable, I say!

(My bad. But startrek.com will insist on having them displayed on my screen the wrong way around, won't they? ;) )

Honestly, who gives a flying fuck if season 1 Troi is on season 6 cover? So stupid.

I've never liked the catsuits, so I for one am glad they went with uniformed Troi for this rerelease.

I feel sorry for Seven and T'Pol who were pretty much stuck in catsuits for their entire shows.

Deanna doesn't like when people curse. Tell her how you really feel.

It's odd how in the product specs for Season 1 Amazon lists hat the episodes are presented in BOTH Fullscreen and Widescreen. Are we getting a copy of the episode in the 4:3 format and a cropped 16:9 broadcast version? That's odd, considering that the Blu-Rays didn't even get the widescreen versions.

    Mistake probably.

TNG complete series in the green box is also listed as WS when it isn't.

I just saw the season 5 rerelease box today at the store, and it's terrible.

Cheap plastic box and even cheaper ugly paper slipcover.

The silver season TNG boxsets are MUCH more classy, even if they are bulkier. For those thinking about getting this series on dvd, go with the original packaging.

Upscaling is dependent on the quality of the image delivered by the DVD. The best upscaler is not going to make those early 2000 Next Gen DVD's even approach the Blu-Ray.

As stated before, this is obviously a cash-grab with old stock. I would stick with the used market, or get a Netflix or Amazon Prime membership if someone was not interested in the Blu-Ray's.

Bah. Go and buy a blu ray player. They don't cost that much these days, and they'll play all your DVDs as well.

I think a lot of it is more "don't care" as with a lot of tech, it isn't like they are exactly shy about it when advertising BD...

...which they really no longer do! Sadly, given how nice and shiny the picture and sound are, BD, at least here in the UK, has gone as far as it is going to go, and the ill-advised 3D format as well as grossly over-priced has been a bit of a failure. The rise of streaming services and popularity of subscription TV has hit disc sales hard, with £3 a perfectly sensible target price for any film over a year after release on DVD.

I'd say a serious risk now is not so much that the DS9 and VGR remasters won't happen, but at least VGR will probably miss the boat for BD altogether, and we will see it only on download services.

If it also leads to the death of 3D however, I couldn't be happier, it sucks balls.
