“We’re going to start off smaller. There’s a brand new cast. To freshen the franchise we’ve redesigned everything from top to bottom. The history of the first three movies is still there, we start four years later and there’s a reason why we’re meeting a new cast.”

Bay also said that he:

...roped in his Pain and Gain star Mark Wahlberg to front an all-new cast, and he recently confirmed that this will be the start of a new trilogy.

I'll still see it.

Transformers are nothing if not constantly changing. A change shouldn't be seen as unusual as the cartoons did that every year just about throughout a series. You know...toys and all.

The comics licensed by IDW has them being able to re-engineer their bodies. So they adapted Bayformer-esque bodies during their time hiding on Earth and then getting forms that were more in line with the FoC/WfC games once they resettled on Cybertron.

Lord knows if your last movie made a billion dollars, something needs to change

It's driven by the toys, most likely. The Dark of the Moon toy line flopped compared with the previous two films, to the point that the last several waves of figures were canned in the USA. And really it's no surprise – we had three movies of the same characters with basically the same designs that Hasbro has tried to sell to parents over and over. At some point, the parents tell their kids that they don't need a twelfth stentorian robot that turns into the same flame-covered truck. A ground-up redesign avoids that issue.

The failure of the toyline is more because the retailers wanting only Bumblebees. Not that I'm absolving Hasblow of any fault in the toyline's failure.

I cannot resist... apologies...

:p

Great, perhaps he can redesign them to look like Transformers.

I like Wahlberg though, good choice.

I hope he doesn't get rid of the frequent overt racism. That was my favourite part of the original trilogy.

I'm glad to see that Orci/Kurtzman (who I'm not entirely convinced aren't Bynars) aren't penning the script. I wonder if Alex Jaeger will still be on the art staff.

As long as he unclutters the Transformers designs so anyone can actually tell who's who in a major fight i'm all for it.

Bay is perfect for mindless entertainment but i still like to know what happens onscreen (TF3 was a step in the right direction).

True, without the voices it was hard to identify which gray motion-blurred blob was which Decepticon.
