I may be a pessimist, but I think we've seen our last Star Trek TV series.

True story: When one of my TNG books got reprinted a few years ago, I took advantage of the opportunity to change all the references to "the original Enterprise" to "Kirk's Enterprise"--just because Enterprise (the tv series) had added Jonathan Archer to the "canon" in the interim!

    Live-action? Agreed.

But I have a feeling we'll see something animated in the next couple of years.

I agree with you. Perhaps, it is just the optimist in me. No Trek = bad; Trek in various forms = good.

I discovered Star Trek in the first run of The Animated Series. Later, The Original Series was available during syndication. New Trek?! WTF was that back then? It was a verrrrry long dry spell before TMP came along. It was even longer until TNG popped up! Very spoiled, indeed.:vulcan:
    If only, if only...:sigh:

I'm honestly not sure how I feel about a new series, live-action or animated.

We've been from the beginning of time to the edge of the universe and pretty much everywhere in between. We've dealt with our younger selves and seen where humanity might go in the future.

Any new series is going to have a tough time finding a voice for itself and will inevitably be compared to the sea of seven hundred episodes that have already been produced. The fanbase was pretty hard on Voyager and Enterprise for using concepts already done in other series. How far away does a new series have to move away from the formula to find its niche and will it be so far away that it no longer resembles Star Trek?

A new film every three or four years is a treat. Something to look forward too. A new series? I'm not so sure...

I suppose it really is a matter of opinion then. While I thought some of the movies were pretty good I found them to be lacking as actual Star Trek films. First Contact was a pretty cool movie, but not nearly as insightful or interesting as the series and it had some weird character issues.

As they progressed they went from pretty good (standalone films) to just bad, like Nemesis.

    This.

Desperate to see a new series. Would be even more amazing if we had some cameo appearances by some of the older casts.

I'd trade all of Modern Trek for the planned thirteen episodes of Star Trek: Phase II. :techman:

There WILL be a new Trek series, ive posted before why and the likely timeline for it's appearance. The latest likely series revival is still from Bad Robot....they even stated that if Into Darkness does well, then a series is almost a given.

The only Phase II episode I ever want to see is this one. Scroll down to where it says "A darkened and lifeless Enterprise..."

That would have worked fine as an Enterprise episode, in fact. I actually think it's more likely that Trip would act the way described in that episode, rather than Scotty.
