3.75" figures will probably top ten dollars in the next year or two, so yeah I think a 6" line would easily go for $15 apiece. That's a pricepoint that most collectors will not swallow short of the new figures having amazing features both articulation-related and electronic. And I sincerely doubt they'd be that impressive.

Action figures are essentially in the same boat as comic books--a once inexpensive product-turned-luxury item catering only to a small group that can afford them. Like comics, they may eventually be found mostly in specialty stores.

If it made many figures easier to find I can't say that would be the worst development for the collecting world. ;)

Heck, it's almost that way already. Most of what I buy any more I can only find at my local comic shop, or online. That's even for the stuff that's supposed to be at retail. DC Universe Classics, my personal favorite line, had some of the worst distribution ever.

Well, the only thing about going "the direct market," is that stuff usually isn't easier to find as they tend to have smaller production runs--which means much quicker (if not sometimes instant) sell outs of the more popular stuff and their subsequent reapperance on eBay with substantially jacked up prices.

I guess I've been spoiled by the decent selection at my friend's shop here in town. I sometimes forget that a lot of comic, toy and specialty shops have terrible inventory and don't offer local collectors much variety, so I don't naturally wish for a decline in mass retail marketing of action figures....it's so much easier to walk into a Walmart, Kmart, Target or TRU and grab a package off a peg wall or shelf, pay ten dollars and walk out than order online and wait an extended amount of time or hope the local toy shop has the newer stuff.

A lot of us here just got really perturbed by horrible distribution last year and even in 2011 and it doesn't take a collector very long to gripe or even reach a breaking point with mass, big box retail.

    The news has just broken:

    Star Wars: The Black Series.

6" scale figures due out later in 2013. They'll be carried alongside the 3.75" figure lines.

Yep, they'll carry a MSRP of $19.99, which means a little more than that at places like Toys "R" Us and a little less at Walmart.

And apparently the brand new 3.75" line that will replace the cancelled Droid Factory will also use the "Black Series" template and logos.

    :)

We're supposed to get eight of them this year, including an R2-D2, Sandtrooper and Darth Maul. I'm all Sandtroopered out to be frank....I'm just glad the VC112 Vintage Sandtrooper was incredible....but I'm willing to give an articulated 6" Sandy a shot. And a 6" Artoo might open up lots of possibilities for added droid tools and features they can't fit onto a smaller figure.

3.75” has been around for most of the last thirty-five years. It's not going anywhere anytime soon.

Ok, ok, buzz has calmed down.

Of course, I will still love and cherish and buy the 3 3/4 inch figures. I've just been waiting for Star Wars in this scale since forever. Now I'll just have two Star Wars (er, 3 if you count my Sideshow and Hot Toys) collections going.
