The Second's Out version of Supper's Ready is pretty much as good as music gets.

However, we at least seem finally to be sort of lurching back in the general direction of the topic, so keep that up, everyone.

Yeah, I'm kinda burnt out on that discussion. I don't see how it matters if the books are famous or not? I just think they're a great basis for a new trilogy. Audiences don't have to have read them to enjoy an adaptation.

I'm happy with JJ decision to direct Star Wars episode 7 I was a bit shocked on Disney taken over the franchise and was a bit un interested but it's lifted my eyebrow like Spock so good luck to him and his cast and crew.

Also he did pick some really good actors for the Star Trek reboot and hopefully fingers crossed the next movie will be amazing !! And hopefully he will have time to direct the 3rd film !!!

My thoughts too. He's obviously a huge fan and used Star Trek as a stepping stone to the kinda film he'd like to make.

Look, I can't believe we're even seriously having this conversation. Printed book sales are declining every year. Not to mention that 1 in 20 books sold last year in the UK were 50 Shades of Grey. Not exactly a great sign?

And you don't think that has anything to do with the emergence of tablets, e-readers, or people reading books on their telephones?

The truth is, "average adults" read more now than they have at any time in the last 100 years. But "reading" encompasses a broad range of things--everything to blogs to online news articles to posts on message boards. And, these days, fiction has taken a back seat to non-fiction material, but that's been true for most of the life of the printed page. Fiction didn't really start to become popular until the mid to late 19th century.

And even so, people now read more fiction on average than they did in the 80s and 90s.

I was pleased to see a nice floor display for STAR TREK books.

Just great. I bet he's going to completely fuck with my head now, by producing the kind of Star Trek film I've always wanted... frustratingly set in the Star Wars universe. Amazingly fawned over by everybody except, hiliariously, the Jedi hardcore who'll be bitterly complaining all about the canon violations and plotholes. The only Star Wars novel I read was one about an alien invasion - I cannot remember the name but it was dreadful and I never finished it. I swapped it with someone for a Parker novel - I got the better end of the deal.

Not at all. I said many have social skills problems. I myself am autistic and I don't think I have any problems interacting with people in the real world.

You're very lucky. I'm in the same boat but I have atrocious social skills and am therefore fair game for abuse. You have like... the best of both worlds by being autistic and being able to function socially with no problems at all.

How can one dispute that most people don't read books? Simple enough - by meeting people, getting to know folks, observing the world, paying attention to what actually goes on.

I found my Hollywood Video card the other day. The place went out of business before I could use up my "early return" credit. Of course, in this day and age of Redbox, Netflix and everything else, it would've cost me more to use that credit.

JoeZhang might be talking about the novels featuring the Yuuzhan Vong invasion of the galaxy. They were set about 25 years after ROTJ and created a real division between many fans, some loving the idea of a threat even greater than the old Galactic Empire and others not liking the "Borgification" of the SW universe with some giant, collective alien threat.

Other than the novelizations of the OT and Splinter of the Mind's Eye, the only SW novel I own are Heir to Empire, Dark Force Rising and Han Solo At Star's End. I've no recollection what they're about though.
