I wouldn't mind seeing John Scalzi take a crack at it.

    ^ He basically already has.

I like the idea of Stover and Stackpole and Zahn, from Star Wars; similarly I'd add Aaron Allston.

I bet Lois McMaster Bujold would write a kicking Trek book too.

With Redshirts? Yeah, true. I still would like to see him write something in the actual Trek universe, even if it'd probably just be a one-off.

I'd love to see Neal Stephenson do a DTI book.

If it was past authors: Lovecraft and Frank Herbert :)

I like a lot of the suggestions so far. I'd like to see David Weber write one. Also I wouldn't mind ones by Cory Doctorow and William C. Deitz.

For past authors I'd rather see ones by Alfred Bester and Isaac Asimov.

^Van Vogt was actually invited to write for TOS, but he couldn't adapt to TV script format or something, and nothing came of it.

He could still have done prose...

^Not saying he couldn't; just offering an interesting bit of trivia about his Trek connection.

Since Spinrad and Ellison got involved, yeah, a Van Vogt ep would have been cool. Or a Matheson or Bradbury ep...

We need those - dammit where did I park the TARDIS?

(actually, it's at the Police Station on the other side of town, but with the streets this icy...)

(no, really, I'm not kidding, the Police station here has a TARDIS in their car park.)

^There was a Matheson episode -- "The Enemy Within." Also episodes by Theodore Sturgeon, Jerry Sohl, and George Clayton Johnson.

I would love to see another Andrew Robinson novel, whether about Garak or not.

I'd be interesting in reading something by Eric Nylund or Drew Karpyshyn. The only things I've read by either author are two Halo novels by Nylund and Karpyshyn's Mass Effect novels, but I very much enjoyed them.

I certainly enjoyed the latter. :) It might be nice to see Karpyshyn try Star Trek.

That would be interesting. ME has already struck me as one of the more Trekkish SF universes, so it would be interesting to see one of it's writers try their hand at Trek.
