Your interviews are great. They should include them as VAM on future seasons!

It's a good idea that, if they can't afford commentaries for all the episodes then it's better to have a commentary on a bad episode over a good one so the writers can really go to town on what didn't work and also give us a reason to watch episodes we might skip over.

Sub Rosa, Genesis, Aqueil, I'm loking at YOU :p

Finished Season 2 tonight. Kind of glad I don't need to watch these episodes and the crappy uniforms for a while. Bring on Season 3, the normal uniforms, and TNG's probably best season (Even though I like Season 4 more). I'll probably be streamlining that in a week. ;)

Final part is up folks: http://tng.trekcore.com/bluray/01172013_robmeyerburnett7.html

Burnett's thoughts on a new Trek TV series, new TNG movie, why he'll always be such a crazy fan and Next Gen's Season 2 remastering.

Thanks for everyone's awesome comments - Rob was an absolute joy to talk to, and the feedback has been amazing :)

I really like these interviews for the most part, but sometimes I do wish he'd stop talking about what he would have done were he in charge of the actual show/movie instead of just doing the VAM. Come on, we all know what we would have done if we were in charge, doesn't mean we're right or that we should have been. His 'as a director, I would've changed' routine is getting old...

Thanks for the interview. I know that subsequent Blu-ray releases are in excellent hands. I'm very eager to see what they'll do in later seasons and DS9.

I take a little exception to his comments on the season 2 remastering, though I can understand why he would defend it - after all, his employers (CBS) made the decision to hire HTV. Don't bite the hand that feeds you.

RMB clearly exhibits fine attention to detail and loving care in his VAM. Little things like using only season 2 music for season 2 bonus material stands out. However, a decent amount of work from HTV exhibited incompetence or laziness (bad model compositing, misaligned lighting passes, cropping, DNR).

Bonus material should complement the main feature. In season 2's case, the bonus materials seemed like the star of the show, in my opinion, because it was made at a higher standard.

Yeah I noticed that as well. He had no problem picking apart every tiny little problem in the Abrams movie, but somehow the substandard fx work in season 2 barely bothered him at all.

Burnett's argument -- that HTV met the requirements of the job and that CBS Digital exceeded them -- would be more persuasive if CBS hadn't removed HTV from the project after the negative reviews came in for their work on season two.

Of course, since he's still working for CBS, it's hard to imagine him answering the question any other way.

Maybe HTV wasn't removed at all. How can we know? Why aren't they telling us the name of the "new" company?

It was confirmed on TrekCore that HTV was to have no part in remastering further seasons. We can only hope history does not repeat itself with the new unnamed FX house.

CBS is a corporation and corporations don't like leaks. Look what happened when Burnett let it slip that they were planning to bring TAS to Blu-ray -- CBS went apoplectic and asked him to contact TrekCore and claim he was only assuming and giving his opinion.* They only want us to know when they want us to know.

    * Just want to clarify that this is only my opinion.

I think theres a clue in the fact were getting a BD release of Best of Both Worlds One AND Two on the same day they release Season 3.

My money is on CBS-D keeping it in house this time out, at least for 4 and 5. Maybe they'll lease it out again come Season 6 though.

I wish that Robert Meyer Burnett would realise that directing Free Enterprise and producing bonus materials for a series filmed over two decades ago doesn't make him a Star Trek insider or anything more than a high-profile fan. His opinions matter about as much as Bjo Trimble's.

what's wrong with someone giving an opinion in an interview. That's what we do here all the time. If it has anything to do with a holier than thou attitude, then that's been part of the trek franchise since the original series. Nothing new there.

Nope, Season 4 is being done by an external post-house. 5 is being done be CBS-D, perhaps 6 too depending on schedules.

I thought that only the visual effects were being done by an external effects company for season 4 and that CBS-D was still supervizing the remastering.

CBS-D are working on the conform for S4, VFX are indeed outsourced. They hope to be able to guide the VFX if time and resources permit.
