The Action Figure and Toy Collecting and Discussion Thread!

I remember there being a couple of Mal and Jayne figures released by Diamond Select around the time of the movie. I also remember them being really terrible, sadly. :(

Robert Tonner made beautiful dolls of Malcolm and Inara. Unfortunately, they were $200 each, and sold out FAST.

He did Doctor Who and Torchwood- Ten and Martha, Jack and Gwen. Again, $200 a pop, and sold out fast. :(

Just Breaking:

Rebelscum.com is now reporting that the brand new 12” figures for 2013 have been found in eastern Canada for $12.44 (CD). No pictures as of yet, though. I still don't know what the new 12” packaging looks like and we already have a report of the figures hitting North American retail.

The figures found are the Clone Trooper and Anakin Skywalker.

The first photo of the new 12" figures (only four or five points of articulation, sadly) in their Canadian packaging. The Clone looks okay enough but that Anakin is much too pale and wonky.

I guess it's a good thing these are cheap 12" characters aimed primarily at kids because I don't think many teen and adult collectors are going to be too excited about these things.

Still, I'll wait until I see these in person before I make any real judgment on their value.

Oh, here's the pic showing the reverse of the boxes.

The packaging isn't that bad. It's not great, but the green 2013 Yoda-themed design is preferable to the Darth Maul layout for so much of last year's product.

:luvlove:

TOO cute. Congrats on getting her....she looks gorgeous and really stands out on a shelf.

Thanks. Man, I like this statue. It's just so adorable, but at the same time cool. I mean, what could be better than a cute and sexy Jedi/Rogue Squadron Pilot?

What could be better? Hmmm. (*Has thoughts inappropriate for an action figure and toy thread*)

:shifty:

The feedback on the new 12" Star Wars figures is starting to trickle in over Facebook and the collecting sites. Looks like it might be almost unanimously unimpressed or downright disappointed. No surprise there....the minute we heard that the new 12" line would be geared towards kids and have just four or five points of articulation for a little over ten bucks we sort of knew not to expect a whole lot.

How much quality will $12 Canadian get you for something this large?

Hmmm, is it too much to ask for a Mara Jade in this style? I don't want Jaina to be lonely.

I wasn't expecting much from the 12 inch figures. Low expectations means no disappointment for me.

Mara would be great. Padmé in her skin-tight white outfit from Geonosis isn't an idea I'd scoff at.

Yeah, the recent trend at Hasbro towards cutting more corners than a bank robber fleeing the crime scene doesn't surprise me when it comes to these 12" figures. Depending on how the Vader looks in the box (the line is supposed to have three or four characters total including an Episode III Obi-Wan) I might get one and the Clone's always a possibility just for the heck of rounding out the shelf display, but nothing about these things excites me.

When a green window box is the coolest and neatest thing about a product that's never a good sign.

It almost makes me think we're back in the Power of the Force 2 days.

Padme would be cool, but Mara came to mind immediately because they would both be EU. Plus, I have a thing for redheads.

It's a shame they don't make a Shae Vizla statue, then. Not only is she an EU video game character but she's also a bounty hunter (never a bad thing) and a redhead reminiscent of Beverly Crusher on TNG. Her 3.75" figure is very cute and has a great head of wavy red hair.

I'm not familiar with the character at all, and had to look her up. I never played The Old Republic. Her character design is a cool one, though. It looks like Gentle Giant did make a statue of her, which is long sold out everywhere.

She's basically a cross between Mara Jade and Boba Fett, at least that's the vibe I get from the game and her action figure. A bounty hunter in protective armor who's really a stunning redhead underneath the helmet.

I don't think the galaxy could survive the awesomsplosion of someone who is a combination of Mara Jade and Boba Fett.

I am still sore about them killing Mara off. :(

Who knows. Lucas and Kathleen Kennedy keep saying they're not going to be tied down to the Expanded Universe books and graphic novels when Episodes VII, VIII and IX are written and filmed so it's possible Mara could show up in the new trilogy and not be killed off.

I finally decided to order a FoC Soundwave off Amazon, since I can't find any locally; that could in part just be due to the post-holiday rush, but it's interesting that the remolded Prime Soundwave (part of the new Beast Hunters subline) has already been released.

The original 1980s Soundwave was one of my all-time favorite Transformers as a kid and I got a huge kick out of playing around with his cassette tape features and opening deck. He was a great and sturdy toy from an era not that long ago when the toys tended to hold up better and last longer under repeated wear and tear than they do now.

Sigh. No Hot Toys Avengers next month, either. Black Widow, Thor, and Loki have all been delayed until March. This now means that every Avenger left is slated for March. I think I see more delays in the future.
