Samuel L. Jackson Wants to Return as a One-Handed or Ghost Mace Windu

Although Mace Windu was last seen having his right hand sliced off and being battered by a whirlwind of evil Sith lightning as he fell from the open window of an ultra-tall skyscraper - supposedly to his death far, far below - Samuel L. Jackson is chomping at the bit to play Mace at least one more time in the upcoming Episode VII, either as a still-living, one-handed former Jedi who's spent decades in hiding to escape the evil Empire or as a blue, shimmering Force ghost like Obi-Wan, Yoda and Anakin.

Here's the breaking E! Online story.

Thoughts? Would you guys mind seeing Mace return as a scarred and wounded old man or even as a ghost to help guide the New Jedi Order and Luke Skywalker? Or should Mace, no matter how cool and badass he was in the prequels, be left out and there should be as few Prequel Trilogy characters in the Sequel Trilogy as possible?

Re: Samuel L. Jackson Wants to Return as a One-Handed or Ghost Mace Wi

The idea of Disney producing Episode 7 to 9 is so fucked up anyway that I don't mind at all. I'd watch an entire film about one handed bad ass Mace Windu kicking Imperial ass.

Re: Samuel L. Jackson Wants to Return as a One-Handed or Ghost Mace Wi

As much as we all love SLJ, I'm not sure it's a good idea to keep bringing back dead characters. Doesn't anybody EVER truly die in sci-fi?

Then again, this being Disney, I'm wondering how "badass" a resurrected Mace would really be...

Re: Samuel L. Jackson Wants to Return as a One-Handed or Ghost Mace Wi

The less elements of the prequels that make it into this new trilogy, the better. Mace Windu is dead; best to leave him that way.

(Not that the STAR WARS franchise has been particularly good at leaving characters dead.)

Re: Samuel L. Jackson Wants to Return as a One-Handed or Ghost Mace Wi

Yes! I want this to happen more than the supposed return of Vader.

Re: Samuel L. Jackson Wants to Return as a One-Handed or Ghost Mace Wi

What's this about Vader returning?

Re: Samuel L. Jackson Wants to Return as a One-Handed or Ghost Mace Wi

I would be fine with it. I liked Mace Windu as a character, and I don't think he got much of a chance to shine. Let's be honest, his best moment was in the fight scene with the Emperor, but we don't know how much of that was the Emperor playfighting, and how much was really Windu kicking major ass.

I look forward to the next trilogy. I think Disney can do it up right when people are watching, and for a property like Star Wars, they will be watching.

Re: Samuel L. Jackson Wants to Return as a One-Handed or Ghost Mace Wi

I certainly wouldn't expect Samuel L. Jackson to be involved with anything made by Disney...

Re: Samuel L. Jackson Wants to Return as a One-Handed or Ghost Mace Wi

Ewan McGregor wants to come back as Obi-Wan's ghost....Sam Jackson wants to reprise his role as Mace....it's just a matter of time before we get the confirmation of Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker's ghost as he woodenly dispenses advice to his aging son and daughter while they ask: "Was mom really as hot as we heard?"

Re: Samuel L. Jackson Wants to Return as a One-Handed or Ghost Mace Wi

Old news. Disney reportedly has mandated that Darth Vader has to be in the movie. Because that's why no one liked the prequels, no Vader.

No, seriously, there is a rumour that Vader is going to return in Episode 7. How or why isn't known.

YES! THIS! I don't see them trying too hard to tie in the prequels too much. Also, Mace Windu was a really boring character.

Re: Samuel L. Jackson Wants to Return as a One-Handed or Ghost Mace Wi

Ain't that the truth. Seriously, I love Samuel L. in almost everything else he's done, but in the Prequels he just sucked all the air out of the room in every scene he was in. CGI Yoda was acting rings around him, for God's sake. Look at ROTS when Anakin tells Mace the truth about Palpatine. "A Sith...Lord?? Are you sure?" Hayden wasn't the one (or at least the only one) royally botching what should have been one of the most dramatic scenes of the trilogy. Leave him out of it, please.

Besides which, in terms of the wider Saga, Mace Windu has already served his purpose: The personification of everything that was wrong with the Prequel-Era Jedi. From his cavalier dismissal of Qui-Gon's belief the Sith had returned (and of Anakin himself, a dismissal which by ROTS had blossomed into open contempt); being too proud to admit the possibility that Dooku could have turned evil until it's literally in his face; his fancy gold-plated one-of-a-kind-purple-blade lightsaber, a most unbecoming weapon for a warrior who's supposed to be humble; his tendency to attack first and ask questions later (if at all), both in the Geonosis arena and against Palpatine...Mace made a very damning Exhibit A in Palpatine's case to Anakin that the Jedi HAD to die.

Ugh. Mace Windu was not badass. He was boring and lame. Other than being black and having a purple lightsaber, he was about as awesome as the hundreds of other milktoast humanoid Jedi waving glowsticks in the background shots. Did he beat Palpatine straight up because he was so awesome or did Palps, who had just executed three Jedi Masters in the span of 5 seconds, throw the fight? I think the latter, but the fact that there is even an argument about this goes to show how poorly filmed that sequence was and how much of a non-entity Mace had been up until that point. He literally killed ONE GUY, one non-Force Sensitive bounty hunter, essentially one stormtrooper with a jetpack, over the course of three movies. He is the Boba Fett of the PT. I love Boba Fett, but I didn't want him in the PT and I don't want Mace in the ST (sequel trilogy).

He should not be alive. He should not come back as a Force ghost. He got his hand cut off, was fried by Force Lightning and then tossed off of one of the tallest buildings on a city planet to fall hundreds of stories to his death. He's dead. And no, he didn't learn how to become a Force Ghost from Qui-gon, who somehow managed to learn that trick AFTER HE DIED. Umm, what?

General rant tangential to this topic...

As little as possible of the PT AND OT settings/characters should be included in the ST. Everyone is way too old and they've already saved the galaxy...twice.

None of the old planets should be used again as primary settings. If I see Tatooine one more friggin time, I'll tear my hair out. You've got a million worlds to choose from and we've gone to Tatooine in Ep 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6. ENOUGH SAND. I hate sand. It's coarse and rough and gets everywhere.

Watched in order, we visit the following major locations, ignoring off-hand mentions (Dantooine, Malastare, Ord Mantell), brief glimpses in montages (Naboo, Bespin and Coruscant in ROTJ) or transition scenes (Geonosis asteroid field):

TPM - Naboo, Tatooine, Coruscant
AOTC - Coruscant, Naboo, Tatooine, Kamino, Geonosis
ROTS - Coruscant, Utapau, Kashyyyk, Mustafar, Tatooine
ANH - Tatooine, Death Star, Yavin 4
TESB - Hoth, Space/Anoat Asteroid Field, Bespin, Dagobah, Rebel Fleet
ROTJ - Death Star 2, Tatooine, Dagobah, Endor, Rebel Fleet

Now be honest. Watching all six films, which locations are more interesting visually by the end?

I submit Kamino, Geonosis, Death Star I & II, Yavin 4, Hoth, Bespin, Utapau, Kashyyk, Anoat Asteroid Field, Mustafar and Endor stimulate the imagination more due to their being one-shots.

Tatooine shows up 5 times (most boringest one)
Coruscant shows up 3 times (next boringest)
Naboo, Dagobah, Rebel Fleet show up 2 times each (not too boring, still have potential)

Finally, Disney should re-re-release the OT and undo the most offensive changes Lucas made. For instance, putting young Anakin in as the Force ghost in ROTJ, having Vader yell no in ROTJ during the climax before he kills Palpatine, the entire Jedi Rocks music video in ROTJ, having Vader know Luke is his son in TESB before he speaks with the Emperor, the Han and Jabba scene in ANH with Boba Fett mugging for the camera, Han not shooting first, all of the horrendous CGI clutter ruining every single shot in Mos Eisley, the list goes on and on, but really, Disney should be able to go through and logically pick out changes that simply did nothing to improve those films.

But that's it's own thread right there.

Re: Samuel L. Jackson Wants to Return as a One-Handed or Ghost Mace Wi

Why would he be one-handed? Luke had his chopped off in ESB and just got a new robotic one.

Re: Samuel L. Jackson Wants to Return as a One-Handed or Ghost Mace Wi

Yeah. If there's one thing that Star Wars doctors are good at, it's replacing severed hands.

That said, I couldn't care less if Mace Windu was in it or not. I was pretty ambivalent towards his character in the PT.

Re: Samuel L. Jackson Wants to Return as a One-Handed or Ghost Mace Wi

That's true of course, but I'm just reporting what Sam said about his character. To paraphrase:"I don't care if he's one-handed, one-armed or some ghost or hologram....I'd just like to be involved again."

A still-living Mace could easily have a prosthetic/robotic replacement hand that was added to his right arm in the decades before Episode VII takes place. But at the same time I wouldn't be surprised if Episode VII's writers had his character lugging around a handless right forearm as a visual reminder of what Anakin did to him decades earlier and further tie Episode III to the new sequels.
