Let's say Marvel and DC were to merge universes.

    And Darkseid is actually Darkseid.

Darkseid was a Kirby creation. He could just as easily have been created for the Marvel universe and would have fit in quite nicely.

Not really since that would have necessitated the cancellation and death of all the characters in Thor.

Plus I don't think Roy Thomas and Stan Lee would have permitted some of the background characters in Mister Miracle.

My apologies. I thought you were talking about Death pre-merger.

I may be misremembering, but I believe that originally he was just referred as "Alfred" and his father was named "Jarvis" (Not sure if this was meant to be first or last name). Later he was called "Alfred Beagle" and then "Alfred Pennyworth"

I used to wonder why Alfred was never given a last name on the '66 TV series. Now I know it's because the comics hadn't yet coined the Pennyworth name, and the others were used too briefly.

But Commissioner Gordon was never given a first name on that series either. When was he first called James/Jim in the comics?

If Thanos wasn't effectively immortal and invulnerable the omega beams might leave some sort of lasting impression on him.

Thanos is generally shown to be a bit more strategically and tactically intelligent than Darkseid with a power level on par with him.

And I thought you were talking post-merger. Faults on both sides let's say.

I don't think the Omega Beams respect things like invulnerability and immortality. They pretty much wipe you from existence.

Darkseid often plays a long game, so I think he has strategy and tactics well covered.

Omega beams are just the seeking mechanism for the actual Omega Effect that he possesses.

The Omega Force gives Darkseid control over anything the Omega Beams hit, it's another example of Darkseid's "control everything" ambition. Theoretically, if the will of the person hit by the beams was equal or stronger than Darkseid's then it wouldn't just kill them dead as they're supposed to do.

I thought the beams didn't kill people but sent them back in time, Weeping Angels-style. That's what happened when Batman "died."

They can also teleport people, as we saw in one of Byrne's issues of Superman.

It's weird hearing people talk about the Omega beams/effect as an absolute death sentence or even crippling power as Superman and similarlly powered entities have not only survived the effect, but dealt Darkseid pretty devastating attacks directly afterward and are still up and kicking. Supergirl herself withstood the beams at point-blank range for what seemed to be several minutes before catching her second wind and knocking him on his bum.

    It's the name.

You hear something called an "Omega" beam you think there ought to be some sort of finality to its impact. But the "does what Darkseid wants" theory is probably most accurate.

Well not an absolute death sentence seeing as how Darkside can use them to unkill people too or at least the ones he killed with the Omega Beams.

They Omega Effect gives him absolute control of anything that is hit by the beams. So death, time travel, transformation, teleporation or anything that he can imagine.

I have decided I like Captain America as a member of the JSA, JLA, and Avengers.
