Instead of (a) national flag(s), they could just keep it simple and use burning crosses.

Fun to watch people make shit up. First he said there were "dozens", then in the same interview said it was "hundreds".

Maybe I'm weird? But I just don't get upset over a candidate losing. If Romney had won, I'd have had the same family, the same issues and the same bills when I woke up on Wednesday morning as I did on Tuesday night.

These Conservatives collecting welfare just have too much time on their hands.

Damn, you're around Chattanooga or Athens or something right? I've not heard anything about this and I'm pretty sure most folks I know would laugh at the idea.

Yeppers. Largely, community wise, I don't think many people care and/or think it's stupid to begin with--even the Righties; but the "good ole' boys" are loving it. You know the type: UT Football, guns, big trucks, and God-- in that order.

Cuba never actually was a territory, so it might just be the Philippines.

I guess you have to rely on second-hand accounts for your metaphors.

    Socialism? :vulcan:

Their definition of socialism obviously does not match mine...or the one in my thesaurus.

And just so we're clear, were you referring to public land there?

Why would public lands in Louisianna that are current being administered by the American federal government, continued to be administered that government after those lands are no longer in America?

And after the Spanish-American war, I believe Cuba was a territory for a small number of years. Or was it a possession?

    :)

If the south seceded successfully, it'd be the Christian equivalent of places like Iran--and that'd be a best case. And what happens in 4 years, they ask to be let back into the Union if a white Republican wins the White House.

You're one of them! Holds up a picture of Coach Dooley, back, back I say!

Is there a discount for water damage?

Federal lands don't belong to the state in which they are situated, they belong to all Americans. If a state wishes to secede and take their federally-owned land with them, they'll have to purchase it from the federal government at a fair market price.

Because they are not and have never been owned by the state of Louisiana. It belongs either to the United States or the people of the United States collectively (pick your preference).

As a condition of declaration of war against Spain, Congress passed the Teller Amendment, which prohibited annexation of Cuba. After the war, the United States occupied Cuba until 1902 and then turned control over to the Cuban government with the exception of a naval base at Guantanamo Bay, which is rented in perpetuity. The United States did exercise the ability to veto decisions of the Cuban government, though, but there weren't US troops and we never claimed to own Cuba.

Alidar, I have a platonic crush on you! Or maybe it's just your mind. I love reading your arguments.

You are going to be GREAT in a courtroom! The judges will love your supporting arguments.

They were purchased by the Federal Government. Why would they belong to Louisiana?

Poor Dooley. :( I feel like a spoiled and unpleasable fanbase has been shit to him since Day 1 and he's never gotten the support he deserves.

    How would that work?

Current day Louisiana is pretty much completely made up of land bought by the Federal Government. Would they have to buy all the land in order to secede?

If Puerto Rico were to become a independent nation, I would have trouble seeing them being "charged" for land prior to their departure. So why would Louisiana?

The Federated States of Micronesia were not (apparently) charged anything stemming from their departure.

    :)

I definitely think there are circumstances when a peaceful divsion of a country is beneficial (think the Velvet Revolution, where Czechoslovakia amicably divided into the Czech Republic and Slovakia) but these petitions honestly sound like the American right-wing equivalent to the threat of left-wingers to leave the country for Canada if Bush got re-elected.

    Only less practical.
