Wow, I was not expecting Etta to die. She was a great character, and I will miss her.
Overall, I thought this was a great episode. I got a kick out of all of the old Fringe Case stuff Walter had hidden away, and I thought it was great to see Broyles again. After hearing about him coming back, and that a major character would die I was expecting it to be him, so I was did not see Etta's death coming. I voted Excellent. Definitely the best episode of the season so far. Do we know if Lance Reddick will be sticking around at all?

Its kinda funny to hear everyone say they were surprised by Etta's death, when it seemed obvious to me that she wasn't going to be around forever. I mean its as simple as watching the shows credits... yes, she was a main character, but she was only ever listed as a guest star.

Main Character listed as a Guest Star = Bye Bye Etta.

Re: Fringe 5x04 - "The Bullet That Saved The World" (Discussion, Spoil

I liked everything about this episode… up until the point where they killed Etta. Ah!!!! :scream::scream::scream::scream::scream::scream: I really liked Etta and am bummed that they killed her. I honestly had a feeling that she would end up dying, but kept hoping that I was wrong. IMO, the writers want to find as many ways to torture Olivia as possible. Of course, Peter is tortured as well, but it seems like the writers really enjoy torturing Olivia in particular. It seems like she’ll never be able to be happy.
No body, no death. The Observers have the ability to move very quickly. One second is an eternity to them. They may have grabbed Etta and now she is alive in one of their labs undergoing testing. Just a thought.

Maybe September will come back from the dead and save the day!!! Of course, it has been a while since I saw last season… did September eventually die from his wound?

Maybe if everyone’s theory is correct and Walternate is involved in the plans, maybe they’ll go to the alternate universe for help. Of course, Walternate is probably dead by now. = (

BTW, how many days have taken place in Season 5??? That is, how many days have taken place since the “original Fringe team” arrived in 2036???

Well, it looks like Peter is going full-fledged avenging angel next week. And I'll be rooting for him. Windmark is going to get his in the end.

Indeed. I really regret that I wasn't able to be here for the Live Commentary; this was the best ep of Season 5 yet. I too, was totally shocked and completely bummed by the fact that Etta got waxed. This show resonated in the same way as some of the very best eps from Seasons 1 - 3, IMO.

Wow. Just still trying to assimilate this.

Re: Fringe 5x04 - "The Bullet That Saved The World" (Discussion, Spoil

I don't like Etta dying because I thought she made it feel more like the 'future' as the 'present' because of her and the changed dynamic with her and her family there.

Taking her out of the picture it feels more like regular old Fringe jumped the future and possibly jumping back at some point.

I have the feelling that the device Walter devised involved time travel and the last episode will have that park scene but without the observer attack.

JJ Abrams LOVES to kill off characters we like.

Which would be nice and happy-ending, which would make me happy, but would be a HUGE reset button! :wtf: At the same time, why not?

JJ Abrams LOVES to kill off characters we like.

J.J. Abrams is neither the current showrunner of Fringe (J.H. Wyman is), nor did he write that particular episode (Alison Schapker did).

Abrams owns the company which produces Fringe.

I noticed that too, but I've seen shows where a character is in pretty much every episode of a season, but is only ever created as a guest star.

That's been my thought as well. Walter's device (as given to him by September) is a time machine. They go back and prevent the Observers from invading our era in the first place. The world is restored, baby Etta is alive, Broyles and Nina are young again, William Bell never loses his hand, and the Bishop family gets its happy ending once and for all.

Dr. Pulaski

Zachary Quinto was in practically every episode of season 3 of 24 but was only a guest star. Tony in season 1, Michelle in season 2.

And Lauren Cohan, Scott Wilson, Melissa McBride, and Irone Singleton in The Walking Dead. McBride and Singleton have been in almost (?) every episode of the series so far, but they are still just guest stars.

The West Wing, season 1. The character of Donna Moss was in all but 1 or 2 episodes that entire season but as only credited as a guest.

Re: Fringe 5x04 - "The Bullet That Saved The World" (Discussion, Spoil

Actually she was in all of the episodes of season 1.
