As much as I love Worf, I'm mixed about this...

I don't think 'in the works' is entirely accurate. It seems to me that at most Dorn is putting together a proposal for a series. It doesn't actually say that Paramount or CBS has been in contact with him.

I very much doubt it would happen, I'll believe it when I see it.

Cant see this making the small screen, perhaps there could be a bit done with web-isodes or something, but cant see it being a long term thing.

Sort of like the idea, but it'd be interesting to see what they come up with.

For now only seems to be an idea thrown around, no ones picked it up yet.

I'm half expecting Micheal Dorn to be announced as the captain of Admiral Chekov's handpicked crew in Star Trek: Renegades

Isn't this like the third thread topic we've had about this? And AFAIK, the information hasn't changed: Dorn is writing something that he hopes CBS and Paramount will be interested in (but probably won't). Well, isn't everybody writing something like that?

Wake me up when Les Moonves announces he loves the idea and it will be on CBS's schedule for the 2013-14 season.

If it works, good for him, but as much as I love Worf I can't see him playing a series lead.

Would love to see it, but I fear it will be a flash-in-the-pan and never see the light of day, much like NuBSG Blood & Chrome and a new TOS Battlestar effort. This almost sounds like a Captain Sulu Redux. Not that I would have minded that either, but I just don't think the suits are at all interested in revisiting the prime universe ever again. :(

Should this happen, I hope it isn't titled Captain Worf.

I'm of the opinion that the future TV series and the film series should be separated by time, space, or continuity so they don't step on each other's toes. VOY was separated by space from the TNG movies and ENT was separated by time.

The TNG movies only overlapped with DS9. The overlap made it seem strange that the Enterprise wasn't in the middle of fighting the Dominion in Insurrection. Would that be the time for Data to help obseve the Baku or to send a Sovereign class starship instead of another out to make protectorates of a newly FTL society? The overlap also makes me wonder why the Borg didn't figure more prominently in DS9. In Insurrection it's stated that the Federation has taken massive losses to the Borg and the Dominion and the Borg are again mentioned later on. It makes it seem like the Borg are a lot more prominent in the Alpha Quadrant than DS9 made it look like. Could the Federation and Starfleet still be suffering from the Borg Invasion two years after First Contact? It's possible but you'd never know it from watching DS9. Over there, its all about the losses Starfleet is taking because of the Dominion.

So, anyway, I don't think the movies should occupy the same time, space, and continuity as the series. At least one of those three things should be different. It gives more freedom to both when they don't have to share the same field.

Yeah. Even though it doesn't change what I said above, I agree.

Recasting the character of Worf with a new actor would be a must. Many of us saw Dorn in a resent car commercial and he physically can't pull off being a mighty Klingon warrior at this point in his life.

Now Dorn in a reoccurring role, a admiral or something like that, would be great.

    :)

Maybe they could title it either Star Trek: Michael Dorn Needs Money or Star Trek: Can't Let Go of Past Success?

The lead in any Star Trek series intended for a mainstream audience has to be human. The only way I could see a series working with Worf as captain is if he isn't the lead. Something like 'Lower Decks', with Worf maybe even only as a recurring character.

Bingo, and it also reminds me of the undeveloped Star Trek series that would have been centered around Spock on Vulcan.

Worf fucking sucks, his character arc was wrapped up well in DS9.

I liked the character fine. But after three hundred episodes, I'm simply tired of him.

Agreed. Thanks for using the term "Spockanlia". I google searched it and never knew it was a Star Trek fan fiction magazine until now. It is a strange name for a fan fiction magazine about Star Trek.

I've never understood the Worf fascination. He comes in handy as a character, sometimes, but he isn't that smart, has little imagination, little good dialogue. All these elaborate plots swirl madly all around him, they depend on him, but he's like the dead air at the eye of a hurricane. Cool, interesting Trek women can't get enough of him, then complain about how boring he is!
As for series "overlap", I think a new series ought to be ALL "overlap". The galaxy should be the setting, with their not staying in any one place. We should get different 24th century characters from different Trek series involved in every story, in great combinations, to deal with this or that situation. It would be a sort of "anthology" series, except that it would all be Trek.

In the article, Michael Dorn says, "I had come up with the idea because I love [Worf] and I think he’s a character that hasn’t been fully developed and hasn’t been fully realized."

Actually, I think he was fully developed and fully realized. He already had 7 seasons of TNG and 4 seasons of DS9. How much more of him do we need to "fully realize" his character?
