Howdy. So I'm posting in TREK ART because it's Trek Art to be...

I just found out my wife is on the list for the 1/350 TOS Enterprise! She wants to get it for my b-day on November 21!!!!

I only know because she never heard anything after getting on the list, and the actual release date is sketchy.

I saw one dude on YouTube with one already. Has it been released to the people on the list yet?

Sure I can look it up- but I'd rather actually interact with people on some level.

Anyway- so this should go nicely with my in progress 1:350 TMP Enterprise! There's an existing thread on that- I've kind of stalled on it because I have no place to keep everything layed out for the build! AHHH!!! THIS WEEKEND SHALL BE DIFFERENT!

Anyone else doing any builds? It's been kind of slow here lately. I feel my Google SU has stalled from lack of self inspired creativity. Physical models are lacking too- FORBIN- Where ARE YOU?!?!

    Anyway- Keep on Trekking!

I'm not on the list, but I fully intend to get one of these when they hit retail. I'm gonna get all the accessory packs too, with the possible exception of the weathering decals, as that sort of thing is simple enough to do by hand. But the PE parts pack and the lighting kit both look cool. I'm not equipped to manufacture my own PE stuff and I don't know enough about electronics to seriously consider designing my own lighting scheme.

Patrick, your birthday is November 21? So is mine! I'll be hitting the big "five oh".

Congrats on your birthday and the kit. You have an understanding wife. I'm left to my own resources if I want it.

    Sincerely,

    Bill

    I said out, dammit!
Model Man's videos feature a sample kit that Polar Lights sent to him for review. He has to give it back when he's done. The model's not in the stores yet.

According to Round 2, the models are on the boat, and on the way over from China as we speak.

If your wife was on the list, she should have gotten the occasional email updates from R2. The latest one just came out the other day. She should be getting a notification to order the club kit direct from PL/R2 and day now.

We've been talking about this kit almost daily over at hobbytalk.com from the moment it was announced.

Oh- lighting just has to be done on these big models though- eh? They just beg for it.

I'm making my own using the lighting system from the old Ertl lights and sounds TMP kit that I had in a box. I bought some fibre optics and will be rigging it up for some simple lighting.

Is the bridge part of the kit proper, or is that an add on cost?

Have you built any kits? I can't recall if I've seen you post any here...

    Thanks!

50, eh? An early happy b-day to you! That's a big number! And good to hear that someone, 50, is still into this stuff!! Gives me hope that I won't grow up. I'm going on my late 30 something or something. I don't pay attention. I'm too busy refusing to act my age.

As I understand it, the bridge piece is part of the "base" kit. It's even designed so you can either have the capt's chair, the helm and the viewscreen aligned straight forward, or turned counterclockwise to have the turbolift alcove align with the "cylinder" sternward of the outer bridge dome.

Even the shuttle, as tiny as it will be, is composed of 4 pieces, the main hull, the two nacelles and a piece to form the proper "step-stair" arrangement of the impulse (?) engine. Now that's detail!

    Sincerely,

    Bill

Hey, yeah I build models. I haven't posted many. The second kit I ever built when I was eight years old was an AMT 18" Enterprise. I have only posted two projects on this board. The first was a 1:1000 PL Enterprise which was waaay back in 2007. That old thread is resting in the hope of a glorious Resurrection over here:

    http://www.trekbbs.com/showthread.php?t=35819

I noticed the last post was one week before I met the girl I married, so that might explain why that project wound down. We've since gotten divorced and now I'm getting back into modeling. I did use that not-quite-finished model in some model photography experiments back in the day as well. That can be found here:

    http://www.trekbbs.com/showthread.php?t=114585

My current project is super-detailing an old MPC/Ertl Millennium Falcon kit and that thread can be found here:

    http://www.trekbbs.com/showthread.php?t=188395

But, yeah, I've been building models forever and have dozens that I just never bothered to photograph.

Hmm- I'll let her know... Have her check her junk email box just in case! Thanks! I told her to email them to confirm if she has to!!!

Phew- glad to hear the bridge comes with it. I already know that I'm building it off axis... Unless I decide to counter sink the bridge *gasp*.

4 Pieces for the shuttles doesn't sound that bad. The ones for TMP's E were easy enough to put together. 4 pieces as well. The nacelles (1). Top and bottom hull. And the back door.

It's so cool the amount of detail on these kits!

Oh dude, of course... I even commented on the Falcon you're working on! I have such a bad memory.

By the way- nice work on the X-Wing game model you made. It turned out really well... I wanted to pick up that game just for the X-wings and Ties... What scale are they?

    ----

On a silly note, I found a 1/350 Slave 1... I want it so I can stick it in the Enterprise... :guffaw:

CultTVMan was selling a 1/350 scale Godzilla kit (currently out of stock). That would be 'interesting" to say the least, Gojira giving the Big E a hard time.

Ha! Thanks. The game is in 1:270 scale. So the rulebook says, anyway. I haven't actually measured anything myself...

I think I might build mine with an off-axis turbolift so the captain's chair faces forward. I can't wait to get mine!

It shouldn't be long now before R2 sends out the emails for the limited edition of the TOS Big "E". I got on the list right after they announced it at Wonderfest in 2011, and I got a Blue T-Shirt from the 1701 club, so there were ALOT of folks who signed up for the kit. As I understand it, there are more than the alloted 1701 kits to be made for the club, so your wife definitely needs to contact R2 to make sure she isn't on the wait list, otherwise, it could be a pain in the rear waiting to see if someone doesn't get theirs so you can have yours.

The retail kit is supposed to come out before Christmas, but I wouldn't hold my breath because you know how R2 has some issues with release dates, but one can always hope this is the one time they get it right.

I am also one of the old fart's who build models, I will be 49 in December RedFern, so I'm not far behind you lol AND I am also a Star Wars fan, as my forum handle implies. :D

My problem is that I buy kits but rarely, if ever, get around to building them.

And while I certainly do not have a Smithsonian warehouse's worth of kits, if they are still in my possession when I "bite the big one", some random schlepp might get an eclectic collection because none of my relatives will care for them.

    Sincerely,

    Bill

That's a shame- for you not being able to build them... And the family not having an interest... :(

Oh well- back to work now.

    Regards

Well, I guess R2 is too busy to respond to emails- guess they should take down their contact page. I messaged them last week, and so did my wife. No answer. So, they can pretty much suck it. I'll buy it from ebay when someone puts it there.

No don't do that man, the EVIL bay will have 900 different prices.

Try Cult TVMan or Starship Modeler They will have the regular kit for around $120 bucks or maybe less. It looks like the suggested price R2 is asking for the regular kit is only 10 bucks cheaper than the Premiere issue, so it may be even less at retail stores.

BTW if you got an email from them today, the premiere issues are in their Cali warehouse and they are taking orders right now. I got my order in and I am # 286.

Yeah, they to drop everything they're doing to answer YOUR email, because YOUR email dictates the life and death of the entire company.

The pre-order emails have just started going out this week. I got mine today. That means they're focused on bigger issues right now.

    Try this.

Good Point... I would rather support CTVMan or SSM... I love both sites.

Yeah- you're right. What is a week to respond to a customer and engage in good customer service. Espeically during precarious economic times. They should leave up their online "Contact US" form just so they can do "Better things" then respond to a potential customer.

Yeah, because they're all just sitting around with their thumbs up their asses hitting "Refresh" on their email waiting for something to show up, right?

Maybe they haven't found the answer to your question yet - no point in responding if they can't tell you anything.

Maybe your email got intercepted by their spam filter.

The TOS350s are on the boat from China to the US. They've been sending out emails to all the people who pre-ordered the kit so they can place their actual order. That's 1701 emails they have to manually send because each one has to connect to individual user accounts in their system for the pre-order/order process to work properly. This is the first time they're doing anything like this so they want to monitor the process and make sure it works as intended.

They really ARE busy with bigger things right now - so shut up and wait a little longer.

I wonder why I haven't gotten my email yet. I am one of the 1701 and got all the updates. Do you think that the emails offering to buy are not being sent out all at once but rather in smaller groups?
