When I say I hate him.. aren't I supposed to hate him? Isn't he the face of smug bureaucracy?

Oh and Sindatur I've been warned about my beloved having a less than stellar debut, personality wise. I like a challenge, I'm sure I'll find a way around that

Oh, yes, you're supposed to hate Maybourne, but, you're supposed to enjoy hating him

Oh I'm enjoying it, that's why I spent a whole episode thinking of what his face reminded me of.

Oh, especially not Kinsey. Ronnie Cox is awesome, of course he's an enemy of the Heroes, but, I greatly enjoy watching his character, he's such an excellent slimeball.

When I refer to disliking a character, I mean I do not get any enjoyment out of them, I don't appreciate what they bring to the show and I would prefer never to have to watch that character again (IE: Most of the S1 characters in SGU). There are plenty of characters I would hate in real life, and want nothing to do with them, but, that quality doesn't prevent me from enjoying what they bring to the show

A Matter of Time: This just in! Dr. Janet Frasier has cut her hair super short and it is adorable.

A timey wimey episode with what appeared to be actual science (or near as) rather than technobabble. It fooled me anyway.

Hilarious exchange before the crisis commenced:

O'NEILL(whispering) Look, I know I should know this by now. I swear it'll be the last time I ask. These wormholes we go through, they're not always there, right?

CARTER (keeping her voice low, too) No, sir. It can only form between two open gates.

O'NEILL What's with the worm part? The worm thing. I-I don't get that.

    CARTER That's just a metaphor.

    O'NEILL Right. I knew that.

The Fifth Race: This is great title for an episode. It intrigues, you just know something important is about to happen. As O'Neill was first conversing with the Asgard at the end of this episode I felt like I was having a Stargate conversion experience, my fandom levels ROSE and the words "gosh this is better than Star Trek" passed through my mind. While much of that was about the suspense and the arc planning not a small bit of it had to do with the amusing awesomeness that is O'Neill. Mid Asgard discussion I was thinking, "imagine if I was trapped on this Asgard planet with O'Neill for years and we were the ONLY humans and.."

And just because I know everyone wants to see more of Janet here is a short haired pic from The Fifth Race of the little wide eyed doctor:

Serpent's Song: That was very sad, putting the trapped human face on the Goa'uld in a way that was painful to watch. Thousands of years in the possession of a larval form. And just when there was the relief of death for that man out of time we realize he'll only go through it all again.

Also. Love triangle for the win! Daniel and Apophis fighting over the same woman('s) body. Daniel actually had a dark moment there but Apophis knew it was all bluster.

The Fifth Race is one of my favourite episodes of the entire series. Absolutely loved the look on Carter's face when they came back from being nearly fried by the sun.

And... O'Neill and me the only humans... well.... ;)

One thing that happened in Serpent's Song that was disturbing was Daniel in a nyah nyah fuck you moment told Apophis that his baby was not taken by a rival Goa'uld faction but by Daniel himself. This was incredibly stupid as even though he thought Apophis was dying Apophis's ultimate fate was in the hands of the government and they could have chucked him through the stargate at any time. So he's just let Apophis know that his son is a whole lot more findable than he thought.

The thing is if he wants Sha're that is the way it will be. She's not going to give up her child just so Daniel doesn't have to deal with the issue of his wife having a child by another man. From what just happened in Serpent's Song I don't think he's thought this far at all.

If MY wife had a baby conceived against her will by another man I would extend the love I had for my wife to the child, an innocent who while not being mine was the beloved of the woman I loved. Daniel had better get his head around this matter.

Daniel and the baby's Arc goes in some interesting directions and brings in some interesting elements to the Show.

Good! I will try and stay spoiler free, I'm sure things can be discussed as if we only had the information at hand Daniel has by this point in my rewatch.

I'm glad to hear the baby doesn't end up like Teyla's, never seen again!

So you are content to bring a Goa'uld child home, a child that could probably destroy the Earth or enslave us all. And if the child could potentially destroy our planet, what do you think he's going to do to your kitchen, your DVD collection, your flat-screen TV, your car, and your carpets? Maybe you'll wise up the first time his eyes glow and he zaps you with his hand device, demanding Juicy Juice as he bores into your feeble, human brain, or maybe you'll just become his mindless servant.

What's going to happen the first time you pick him up from daycare and half the other toddlers are either dead, worshipping your wife's son as an evil god, or have snakes in their heads? Is that fair to the other parents?

I don't have kids myself, but if I did, one of the first things I'd want to know when picking a daycare center is whether any of the other children are Goa'ulds, Wraiths, vampires, werewolves, or possessed by Satan.

Holiday: At the end of this I was expecting O'Neill to make some shocked comment to Teal'c over having a some razor stubble down under but this didn't happen so apparently Teal'c was well behaved while inhabiting O'Neill's body. The shell game at the end was a bit eye rolling but what I really want to know is if anyone uses this machine again! All you need is three people and you can enjoy the wild ride that is someone else's body! Who wouldn't change genders just for a day?

Don't be silly. It's a human child whose biological mother is Sha're and biological father is an ancient egyptian. The kid isn't a Goa'uld until he gets the larva implanted in him.

I wouldn't want to be Daniel explaining to Sha're how he could have kept her baby COMPLETELY SAFE but instead he let the kid live like a refugee. That would be the end of that marriage if a step-dad treated my kid that way.

I was waiting for Carter to become part of a swap and then scowl at whoever was in her body and say something like "Do NOT touch my boobs, sir!", perhaps getting a rejoinder of "I'm just adjusting!" ;)

But they didn't even go there. :vulcan:

I don't think they ever used the device again, even though it would've been a brilliant way to go under cover, such as swapping bodies with a captured Jaffa first prime or something.

Oh, that's easy. Share is a simple, trusting girl from a primitive culture. All Daniel has to do is explain that he had a Tom Petty song stuck in his head like an ear-worm --

It don't really matter to me baby,
You believe what you want to believe,
You don't have to live like a refugee.

And then she'll recall the horrors of being possessed by Apophis' queen, and realize that what Daniel must've suffered with his "ear worm" singing that dreadful song to him over and over and over must've been far worse than being possessed by a high-ranking Goa'uld, and all will be forgiven. :)

One False Step: The SG:1 team almost wipe out an entire planet of Mummenschanz players. Extra points for oddness and makeup with this one.
