TBH I cant help but wonder if this is the real reason the Daleks needed the Doctor, the Daleks in the Asylum were not that active, what actually scared the Daleks, was the one Dalek, who wasnt acting like a Dalek should, and could seemingly control the other Daleks around it. Im betting the Daleks think that only the Doctor could get past her defences, earn her trust etc

When the Doctor thinks she is just a girl trapped in the Doctor Asylum he will do all he can to save her and earn her trust, then when he finds out she is a Dalek, they know his hate for them, will make him force her to see what she has become.

Just had a thought, and perhaps others have too. But when Oswin (in her mind; human form) is trying in vain to keep the Daleks out of her "pod." Could that just be the Dalek side of her trying to overtake her, and she sees it as actual Daleks trying to break down the door?

Like I said, may not be an original thought, but I haven't seen it presented here yet.

A passable episode, which is actually a big step up in terms of Moffat's episodes of late. His characters still act like irritating smartarses, and the plot was miserably thin, but at least it told a proper, contained story this time. Could have done within the reset moment though.

Amy was as annoying as ever though. She seems to graduated to spousal abuse now as well - slapping Rory in a way that would never be tolerated if the reverse were true. And she was doing this, before the events in the Asylum. I can't wait for her to leave the story, she's a seriously nasty piece of work. Just a shame Rory's leaving too...

I found it a rather dull, but acceptable episode. Moffat's constant repetition of ideas and tropes is insufferable, but it could have been worse, I guess.

I'm always puzzled when I read that kind of comment. Why would anyone watch a show they don't enjoy? I guess some people have more free time than I do, and watch a lot more TV, including things they don't really like.

Yeah, I think that was pretty clearly the intention. Knowing the truth, you can't help but find her situation a lot more sad and tragic when you rewatch the episode.

I haven't re watched it yet, so that's why I only now came up with that thought. I plan to give it at least one more watch before next Saturday's episode.

While this doesn't really pertain to the episode. I just want to say this is my first time watching Who first run and being able to participate in these discussions. In the past it's always been after the fact on DVD, this is exciting. Of course I don't like haivng to wait a week for the next episode :p

No heart emoticon so the drooling one will do.

Ginger and legs was great but you can't go wrong with a petite brunette.

I hope to find someone that looks exactly like Jenna!

The Christmas Special can't get here any faster

And who chained her; not the insane Daleks surely? The "sane" Daleks must have; as someone else suggested, they were afraid of her not the rejects.

I enjoyed the episode and found it to be a solid improvement over last season. The twist with Oswin being a Dalek was actually very clever! Also, kudos to Jenna Louise-Coleman because I think she will be a great companion; although I'm not sure how SM intends to work her into the Christmas special now that she's dead.

Unfortunately, I had a few complaints about the episode too. While the storyline revolving around the Ponds' divorce was emotionally compelling, I found they devoted too little time to it and so its resolution fell kinda flat in my opinion. I get they're trying to tell episodic stories but come on! That should have been a season long arc!! And was I the only one who was a bit weirded out that they never used the 11th doctor's theme in AoTD? I sure hope it comes back soon ...

I've been fixed up on some old-fashioned blind-dates where the reality turned out to be worse than a Dalek.

Yeah, the red dress with the tool belt was definitely a cute look for her.

It's a shame her companion look probably won't be as sexy.

Too bad we didn't get a scene with the infected Amy yelling "TERMINATE EX! TERMINATE EX!" at Rory.

It's a great theme, but usually it's reserved for when the Doctor comes up with some inspired solution or they want to go out on a light note.

With all the Pond angst in this episode, and the tragedy of Oswin's situation, I just don't think it would have been as appropriate here.

the chain thing is an interesting question, and it was me who suggested that it was actually her the Daleks were scared of.

Ah, OK, McCoy's Era (I get mixed up on the titles of the three "R"s). The McGann movie implies that's where McGann got him from, but, still, The Master was there immediately before the TV Movie, so it was still around when McCoy regenerated.
