That's kind of my point - I knew all along that a person called Jenna Louise Coleman is new companion Clara Oswin, I have seen pics of her filming, and I still didn't recognise her... so what chance has the casual viewer got to get what's such a "twist" (as even the Radio Times promised) about her? Until Xmas anyway...
I thought that it was an almost Troughtonesque level of Oh Noes. Can now kind of see where the people who say Smith is like Troughton are coming from.
There's a better chance (depending on what BBCA shows in promos) that viewers in the US might be surprised when she later returns. She isn't well-known here and things like who the Doctor's next companion are don't get splashed all over every media.
It has to be said, she is also top class eye-candy. A good replacement for Karen Gillan for drooling over when the missus isn't looking!
I have to say initial I wasn't that keen, but I thought she showed potential to be a lot of fun tonight!
I thought she was great, I look forward to finding out how the doctor saves her or how she ends Dalekised.
So now that the Daleks have been Donna'd I wonder what future episodes will be like. Will the Doctor now be known as "that Doctor" that once trespassed on their ship? "Ex-term-inate that doc-tor!"
The only thing the modern Doctor has had over the Daleks is his reputation. He's relied on it heavily in recen encounters. I look forward to the next Dalek outing to see how he deals with them without that to fall back on.
Like with anything else she's only well known if you've seen shows she's been in. Don't watch Emmerdale, I've only seen a few episodes of Waterloo Raod So to me she would be a virtual unknown.
Incidentally, although the old Daleks were mostly in the Asylum, didn't I see a black and gold movie era one - possibly the Supreme from Planet of the Daleks - in the Parliament in a couple of shots (on the right hand side of the screen, just at the end of the aisle, second row from the front, in a couple of shots looking past the NPD Supreme and Weakest Link lectern towards the central floor)?
Probably won't take him long to get a rep with them - even in the original series it only took till their third story before they'd built a time machine of their own to hunt him down...
Dd anyone spot a glass Dalek, or did the mainstream Daleks consider them abominations and just kill them?
