Jack Ryan Reboot

Apart from the Marvelverse, can anyone think of another cinematic universe which has been created in this joined-up way? I'm sure it has been done, but off the top of my head, I can't think of any.

Freddy vs. Jason. Alien vs. Predator. Of course, they weren't designed to meet up from the beginning. And we know how those movies turned out.

Can't think of any other franchises that were created apart with the intent to come together.

^Yeah, I did mean the 'joined-up from the start' approach. Still can't think of any!

Will Costner have to wear an eyepatch and turn up in the post-credits sequence?!

I wouldn't say I'm excited, but I am interested. I'd probably be less interested without the shared universe thing they're planning, though. I'm a sucker for that sort of thing. :D

I almost am, but I have this lingering fear that Paramount is once again going to try and pigeonhole him into a would-be action star, thus missing the entire point of the character.

It's the most significant thing that worked with Baldwin, and they abandoned it when they brought in Harrison Jones Solo.

It's on the other end of the spectrum (comedy), but Kevin Smith's View Askewniverse links all of his films together, with the same characters.

John Hughes also set all his films in the fictional Shermer, Illinois, although there isn't really any crossover between them. Interestingly enough, in Kevin Smith's Dogma, Jay talks about trying to visit Shermer, only to get to Illinois and find out that it doesn't exist.

Now that I think about it I'm more excited about the Without Remorse movie. WR is one of my favorite Tom Clancy novels and I've been waiting years to see it on the big screen. Tom Hardy seems like a good pick for Clark.
