Is your own personality similar/different from your fave characters?

Is your own personality similar to that of your favourite Star Trek characters or very different?
As in, do you identify with your favourite characters or do you admire them because they have qualities that you don't have?

As for me, my all time favourite character is Picard and (according to a personality typing thingy which I won't go into here), I'm the same as him. I'm a bit more patient with people than he is, but that's only due to the deplorable lack of a star ship that I could call my own

But then I also like characters who are very different from me, e.g Kirk (yes, it is indeed possible to like both Picard and Kirk! In fact, the awesomeness and cleverness of Kirk is vastly underestimated).

Or do you have totally different reasons for liking certain characters? ("Dax is hot" comes to mind, LOL).

Re: Is your own personality similar/different from your fave character

You can be drawn to certain characters due to any number of things.

You see a character that is similiar to yourself.
You see a character that you things embodies the best of your traits or those that you aspire to have.
Or you can be drawn to characters that are the opposite of you. etc..

Yes, thank you Data, I'm aware of that.
Sorry :) Couldn't resist :)

What I want to know is individual forum members' experience.

My pleasure.

And yes I've taken those silly personality tests online, and usually I get the result I expect. And depending on the nature of the questions I get results like Picard/Data/Kirk/Spock/ Scotty...

And yes I do like those characters

Oh, I didn't mean the Star Trek MBTI test if that's the one you mean? That page mistypes half the characters anyway.

Re: Is your own personality similar/different from your fave character

I think it needs someone else to judge which character you're most like- My wife swears that Odo is the most like me...

Re: Is your own personality similar/different from your fave character

I suspect others would peg me as Spock.

Re: Is your own personality similar/different from your fave character

I'd say that many of my favorite ST characters have qualities that I wish I had and feel like I probably do have - e.g. Kirk, Sisko, Scotty, Sulu, Riker.

But there are other characters in ST that I like just because I think they are interesting - Rom, Nog, Odo, Tuvok.

I remember reading somewhere once where we all think we are Bugs Bunny when in reality we are probably more like Daffy Duck.

Or perhaps more like Wile. E. Coyote. We have lots of plans but most never work quite out how we planned. Or we are chasing that elusive goal (Road Runner) that we can never quite get.

Re: Is your own personality similar/different from your fave character

Ever since Trek TOS first went on the air, I've admired and identifed with both Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock -- though family members and friends sometimes comment that my personality is more Spock-like.

I don't quite know how to respond, so usually I just say "Thank you." :)

Re: Is your own personality similar/different from your fave character

I think I'm probably closer in nature to Jadzia Dax more than anyone.

Re: Is your own personality similar/different from your fave character

I think I'm most like that unnamed red shirt who beams down with Kirk, Spock, McCoy, and Scotty.

Or you could just want to boff them.

Re: Is your own personality similar/different from your fave character

Many of my favourite characters do tend to be the introverted, serious types, but there are plenty of exceptions to that rule. For every Captain Picard or Stannis that I love there's usually a King Robert Baratheon or Kira Nyres right beside them.

With Trek, it's going to have to be the latter.
My favourite character has to be Picard, but I just can't identify with him. He's something to be aspired to, not indentified with.
