That's one ugly sonic screwdriver. Just the picture of that gun is a bit of a spoiler LOL.

The likeness isn't exactly their best, but it's good enough, IMO.

There's a BBC Shop exclusive variant that looks even better to me, grey shirt, black vest. But yeah, it's about bloody time the Rory figure was released. And I think the likeness is far better than with the River Song figures.

Funny, to read some of the reactions upon the WhoNA store forums, you'd think Character Options packaged some rubber dog poo and labeled it as Rory. Me? I think they caught the "deer caught in the headlights" stare pretty well. ;)

    Sincerely,

Nah, that was Sil from Vengeance on Varos

I think it's a very good likeness, actually. Maybe, a tad too butch looking and the hair could stand to be more ginger, but, the likeness is pretty right on, IMHO.

Besides, many times to figure looks better in your possession under natural lighting than the promo shots. I remember the uproar made when the first shots of the Hartnell figure were released. "That looks more like my great Aunt Sylvia than ol' Billy!" That sort of thing. It got UGLY with a capital "UGH!" But when it actually became available, most of the complainers were placated. "Hey, you know, it doesn't look half bad. It actually looks like Hartnell!"

So, I'm not fretting. It's just funny to read some of the drama queen performances. I rarely post there any more. I just keep track of any "news" since Who North America is where I purchase my items.

    Sincerely,

    Bill

Yeah, that comparison was tossed around the WhoNA forums as well.

Which why I absolutely refused to get the Sil & Peri combo (I wasn't going to pay essentially $20 USD--plus a few extra bucks for shipping & handling--for a rubber dog poo figure).

So did anybody get their 1/6 Eleventh Doctor yet? I got a notice from Big Chief that they were going to go out last week, and I saw a review on Tardis Newsroom, but I still haven't heard anything from the place I ordered from...

Glad to see there's a Rory figure coming! Still need a figure for Wilf, though.

Apparently Bernard Cribbins really wants one, too--and that's reason alone to do one, in my book.

I think the did a good job on the likeness of the face but failed miserably on the hairdo.

I went to Character's website and clicked their "contact" option. I sent a very politely-worded email asking if they had any plans to do a Wilf figure, possibly releasing it in a double package with Donna. This is their response.

At least they know there is interest from at least one collector now. I didn't mention any rumors, just inquired about the possibility of releasing one. I'm guessing at least part of that is a canned response. Anyway ... never hurts to ask.

While I will admit I have no "inside knowledge" to prove the following, I suspect we will see a "helmeted" Sutekh figure as a later release. There is presidence for this. Rememb er the Peter Davison "regeneration" figure, the one with Davison's head atop the burgundy coat and scarf arrangement? It was released first and later we got the same body with a Tom Baker head mounted. Davros, first we got a Terry Molloy version with the control board indicative of chair. Later, the Wisher version was released.

It seems to be the pattern that Character Options (in cooperation with Underground Toys and Forbidden Planet) will release a (debatably) less popular version of a character first with the knowledge a certain percentage of collectors will buy it immediately and later release the more memorable version.

This is actually a very smart marketing plan. If they were to release the more iconic version first, fans would more likely buy that one right away, but possibly outright ignore the "variant" if it's released later.

Having stated this and suspecting the strategy, I will likely get the jackel headed figure anyway because there is always the chance conditions may "go south" and the iconic "helmeted" figure may not get released. And that's what CO hopes, the collectors' "fear" of an aborted line will drive them to buy the earlier "variant" release. It certainly helps to offset the cost of development. If I were in the business, that's what I'd do.

    Sincerely,

    Bill
