ROBOCOP remake finds its director and star

Possible Concept Art for ROBOCOP Revealed?

I AM IRON... um... ROBOCOP!

^Oh Dear...

...in fairness though, this might just be *early* concept art. To add a little perspective, this is what an early design of the original Robocop looked like...it too looks a tad familiar, no? ;))

Oh but the original RoboCop was designed with Dredd in mind!

The original Robocop started off because Charlie Lippincott wanted to make a Judge Dredd movie...

Didn't think the link survived long enough for that helmet design though - that *is* Dredd's helmet....

I believe that was deemed fake a few weeks ago.

Apparently Drew McWeeny has read the script. BIG grains of salt!

I'll share this one detail. In the film, when Murphy is turned into RoboCop 1.0, it's described 'a high-tech version of the '80s suit.' Then they show a focus group scene where criminals laugh at the design. "He looks like a toy from the '80s!" So they redesign him to look 'meaner' as RoboCop 2.0, who passes focus group approval. So they not only make sure to include the original design, they also point out it's dated and stupid. *facepalm*

Hold onto your sides for more hilarious RoboCop details. They outsource his construction to China. #seriously

Oh, god... oh dear god... RoboCop is a Transformer. He goes from "social mode" to "combat mode" and back. Full transformation.

Good god... it just keeps topping itself. It's like someone wrote a script scientifically fine-tuned to destroy me. Someone shows Pope, head of the OCP project, some mock-ups for RoboCop action figures. 'Are you kidding? I wouldn't buy that for a dollar!' Yeah, that just happened. NOT SO FUNNY NOW, IS IT?!

If true, this movie will play up the "He's a product" angle more than the 1987 movie.

Robocop is no different than the latest Ipod

Having a "Criminals focus group" is probably some attempt by the movie to copy the 80's satire angle.

I understand that with the OCP employee looking at Robocop action figures.

Owen's a good actor, but Laurie could have brought something completely different to the role. A shame he's not involved (which makes it even harder to get excited about a remake of RoboCop).

I actually kind of like that redesign. From everyone's reaction my sense of taste must not be so hot. :)

Welcome to the club! I actually think it's a nice modernization, looks pretty slick and if you want to see the old design... what about watching that movie... whatever they go for, nothing will happen to it.

9 out of 10 ideas get rejected? Either they really hired the wrong director who has nothing but horrible ideas, or he simply didn't understand that they wanted to hire a guy who just does what the studio tells him to do.

Like the goons that are hired to do Die Hard sequels. First it was Len Wiseman (who then went on to direct that classic that is known as Total Recall ) and now it's John Moore.

^MGM is making Robocop, whereas Fox is behind Die Hard (and Fox interference also had an effect on X-Men 3 and Wolverine), but yeah, sounds like much the same situation.
