Going to California - need advice

^ Ah, but the A's aren't there *yet*... ;)

Not sure if you like Soccer, but the Earthquakes have a very good team. Also, there's plenty to do in San Jose. It's pretty much the center of Silicon Valley, and just north of San Jose is Apple and the home of Google. It's worth checking out the south bay if you're coming to the Bay Area, at least go to the Tech Museum or NASA Ames Research facility (If they take tours, I'm not sure if they do or not).

I was in San Jose recently for a show at HP Pavilion. Had a great time, and found a great breakfast place the next day.

Come visit!

We'll be there in November for Rush at HP. A big group of us. We're meeting friends from Texas there.

Also, I've taken my daughter to see Cirque Du Soleil at the Taylor Street Bridge several times. We always stay at the Doubletree. Believe it or not, there's actually a decent little sushi bar there.

If Flux is reading this I'd be interested to hear his recommendations on where to visit (I can only assume he's from the area).

As for hotels: I may look for Marriotts. I'm fond of staying at them.

Nice! I took my friend to see Cirque there when she was in town. Is the Doubletree nice? It doesn't look so great in parts but my husband said it was nice on the inside.

MLB, when I moved out here I started a thread where I ended up getting a lot of useful suggestions. Obviously you won't be able to see all of these things, but you might find it helpful!

There's so much to see in San Diego. From the sparkling waters of Mission Bay to the warm tortillas of Old Town. And after a day of sight seeing, why not try spanking it on one of our charming city streets. San Diego - Come! Take a load off.

I grew up in the South Bay, in and around San Jose. Lived there for 25 years. I'm kind of partial to the place.:)

I agree with a lot of the things said in this thread. My airport experience is mostly Oakland based, which has been positive. However, most of those were from a single airline. (hint: I flew out of Terminal 2 99% of the time, which airline was it? :) )

There are a lot of great things to see in the bay area, the museums mentioned already are great to go to. Pier 39 is also a great place to be, especially on a clear day. Not a museum, but just beautiful!

I was born and raised in the east bay, so I'm very partial to it. Downtown Oakland is a nice enough place, it shares the same problem with downtown San Francisco: can be a real pain to get around and parking ain't a picnic either.

If I live to be a thousand, no landmark on the planet will ever be nearly as beautiful as the view from an airplane window of the Golden Gate Bridge on a clear day. When I come home from a trip, if I'm fortunate enough to get to see that, I'm a very lucky man!
