Australia relocates

It seems that Australia has taken over another country in central Euope. That country is bordered on the North by Germany and the Czech Republic, to the west by Liechtenstein and Switzerland, to the south by Italy and Slovenia, to the east by Hungary and Slovakia. Without looking at a map I am guessing it is Austria.

It looks like we well not have to change the name of the country by all that much.

If you have any examples of people getting geography wrong please post in this thread.

Also any suggestions on how we Aussies can subdue those other Aussies will be much appreciated.

Gotta feel sorry for Americans. But this is just bad and laziness from someone at NBC. The problem has been fixed.

It's a common mix-up, though, or so I've heard. If Austrians travel abroad (outside of Europe) they're sometimes perceived to be from Australia because that's a better known country on a global scale. It seems to happen often enough for Austrians to find it annoying.
It also means that some people in Asia or so have a very weird perception of Australia by now. ;)

I don't think it is just laziness but stupidity as well.

This map is from CNN's coverage of the Queensland Floods. Someone has mistaken Queensland (population 4,500,000) for the rather insignificant Tasmanian town of Queenstown (population about 5,000).

I think if Australia had ended up the other way so that Tasmania and Melbourne could have tropical weather.

I am not sure if Australia's wildlife could cope with that though.

Edited to add - if we moved Australia down a little so that the Top End is almost touching South America than our weather would be similar to what we have today.

Their talking about it on ABC radio right now.

The NBC site has also used a pic of Bear Grylls for one of our hockey players, Jamie Dwyer.

If they actually had relocated you there, it'd be totally cool as we'd be neighbours then and the DVDs would arrive within 24 hours! :techman:

Sweet, that will be fantastic for our medal count.
