This thing is all over the news. I wonder how Nolan & Co. feel about this.
And now the Paris premiere has been cancelled.
What a horrible horrible thing.
To be honest, I'm ok with them banning all masks in theaters.
It's kind of strange how this is the 2nd straight Nolanverse Batman movie associated with real world death. Ledger and TDK and now this horrific attack with TDKR. Obviously a movie's just a movie, but it is kind of eerie, considering the (apparent) paramilitary bent to the villains.
I agree, banning masks does nothing. I'm just surprised that the alarms didn't go off when the emergency exit was opened. That's supposed to happen and they won't reset until manually done so. It would have called a lot of attention to the person exiting, that's for certain.Banning all masks wouldn't have changed a thing, unfortunately. He was in the theater, propped open the emergency exit, went out to to his truck to get the weapons, gas, and gas mask, and then came back in through the emergency exit, set off the gas and started firing.
It is sickening that someone could do this to innocent people. What did he hope to achieve? Sadly, we may never really know why he felt compelled to do this. But reacting to this incident with "we have to beef up security" and so forth, it's futile. You can't guard against every possible nutjob case, unless you have everyone's mind hooked up to a wireless cloud and monitored for bad thoughts...

They can't feel good. Even Ironman (RDJ) wrote a long comment about it, and then went outside the walls to try and make someone smile.
If that's indeed RDJ, I'm getting even more impressed. The guy is all kinds of awesome.
I think the escapism of the movie theater will endure. I really do.
That said, what I want to hope will come out of this would be a closer look at our mental healthcare system. It's a disgrace.
