New Star Trek NOT by JJ and Co.

I think if we ever get a new Star Trek series, JJ and his team should NOT be involved. Not because I don´t like them...not at all. I just think a series would actually profit from beeing totally different in style and direction from what JJ is doing. It would make everything more intresting, having different styles going on at the same time. Only IMHO of course.

So, who do you think could pull off a good Trek series? Please mention pro and con.

Joss Whedon

Pro:

Not affraid to try radical new stuff, even during an already running series.

Con:

Seems to be burned out since Buffy.

Yep, nothing says "burned out" more than having just directed the third highest grossing motion picture of all time.

If Abrams is the only guy to convincingly pitch CBS on a new series, or if his pitch is better than Bryan Fuller or Seth McFarlane, assuming they even make a pitch, then Abrams' pitch will win. Which is not the same as saying he'll be in day to day control of the series.

Has Joss Whedon expressed interest in doing Star Trek? If not, that's a pretty big con - whoever does it has got to want to do it.

Of the people who have expressed interest in doing a series, I don't have a strong preference. Maybe Fuller because I like his style but only if the show is a guaranteed success because his track record for ratings ain't the best.

I actually think Robert Orci stands a good chance of creating a new Trek series and being a co-executive producer alongside Alex Kurtzman.

I believe that Orci and Kurtzman have said that they would like to create a new series but would not want to be show runners on a day to day basis. So someone else would have to fill that position. The problem with that for me is that they're the only ones interested in putting ST back on tv that I would want.
