Garrett Wang

From an acing point of view, I don't think many of the stars of all the ST shows have had great careers post ST unless they were fairly well established prior to being cast.

Sure there will be an exception or two.

He's stated (and I'm paraphrasing) that you'd think that after 7 years of acting on voyager it would lead to something more.

Being on a long-running TV series doesn't lead to anything. Look at all the actors who have left Law & Order or ER for greener pastures. What's T.R. Knight done since he quit Grey's Anatomy?

When it comes to Star Trek, unless you're Patrick Stewart it's not much of a jumping ground. For Scott Bakula and Rene Auberjonois, Star Trek was just something they did for a few years in the middle of their careers.

Plus it's not enough to be hot at the moment (not that anyone on Voyager was in demand during its run), you have to do something with that. Imagine where Harrison Ford's career might've gone post-Star Wars if he hadn't landed Indiana Jones. Or what would Tom Cruise's career be like if he just made a whole bunch of Top Gun sequels when he struck it big instead of Rain Man or Born on the Fourth of July?

That being said, Garrett Wang is pretty low on the chart of Star Trek actors.

Doesn't Garret seem like the sort of person that would google himself and Harry every morning after his grapefruit?

We know you're reading this Garret.

Don't be a pussy.

I saw some pics of Garret Wang that had been posted by someone that went to a con recently. Time has not been kind to him.

He looked pretty good when I saw him last year, but he does seem older than that in recent pics. He was an excellent con guest, funny and down to earth, chatted with people in between sessions. Seemed to really enjoy himself. The wikipedia page on him has this paragraph of winge, what Garrett didn't like about VOY. And he told every one of those stories, so yeah he's definitely on repeat. However he came across as a genuinely nice guy. There are quite a few people I would not pay to see again but he's not one of them.

Garrett Wang doesn't even come up in my google suggestions until you get to "W".

That's gotta hurt. Not even the 4th most important Garrett in the world.

I googled him the other day, I might have refined the criteria but top of the page was Garret's twitter feed.

He's busy, it's not that interesting, or well written, i only mean that it's clinical writing, but he does stuff.

because I'm me, I just googled "Garrote Wang" expecting to see pages and pages about castration as well as a redirect to Garret Wang.

Sadly, it seems that Garret Wong is more imperative to googles search trawl than our friend Garret Wang.

Um... no, actually, I don't think he does.

You joke, but he might very well be. After Voyager ended, by understanding is that he went back to school and studied event management (at least, that's what I was told). He now runs the Star Trek programming track at Dragon*Con, in Atlanta, and has for the past two years. He's very good on stage - personable, charming, and has a good rapport with the other actors who appear at the convention.

So it wouldn't surprise me at all if he visited this place from time to time, to see what the fans are talking about.

Admittedly, last year I had to razz him a bit because when we had him as a guest at Toronto Trek 20, six years ago, on the Monday morning after the con (which I'd co-chaired), he felt the need to introduce himself to me in the elevator. He laughed and said, "Yeah, that sounds like something I'd do."
