Imagine a reboot to an alternate reboot where Tom Cruise played Captain Kirk instead of Chris Pine. So Cruise is married to a girl who could've played Spock's mother (Katie Holmes had an uncredited cameo in "Muppets In Space" so she's already highly qualified for Star Trek).

Cruise gets Holmes into Scientology (some kind of mystic alien cult), she gets fed up with him, and her dad happens to be a wealthy divorce lawyer (possibly Ferengi).

Wasn't that pretty much the plot of Where No Man Has Gone Before?

Ahhhh okay. Well, now I'm somewhat familiar with who she is, but still have no idea what this whole thread is about.

I told you, it's about the gleeful rubbing of hands as Scientology gets kicked in the face.

Hmmm. Well, don't know much about Scientology, but it always seemed like a mad up "religion" to me.

That is exactly what it is. L. Ron Hubbard - the science fiction writer - openly admitted he made the whole thing up to make money. I quote:

Yes, I believe it was, but instead of hitting some sort of barrier at the edge of the galaxy and being knocked unconscious, Cruise went crazy and jumped up and down on Oprah's couch.

Katie Holmes' career started with excellent performances, then went downhill with emotionless, wooden appearances (as in Batman Begins). Either Scientology's wacko emotional deprogramming got to her, or she spent too much time under the neural neutralizer on the Tantalus V penal colony for the criminally insane.

It's possible. Scientology has lost a bunch of "celebrities" and highly influential members in recent years.

Yeah, months ago I saw a documentary about scientology, and it was pretty scary to hear what they do and the trouble people have had leaving. Very interesting documentary, but also quite disheartening to hear the trouble people have gone through. Some have felt like it was a prison and they do apparently have a building that's very prison-like.

John Travolta wants to leave, I'm given to understand, but they have too much dirt on him, hence those stories about young male masseurs two months ago.

He must have done something really bad since all the stuff that would have been really bad some years back wouldn't raise too many eyebrows these days.

He needs to find another religion so he can have a repentance from the dirt story to act as a buffer when it hits the media.

Who was an utterly rotten replacement.

Good luck to Katie - I've never liked her husband much. Can't speak for him personally, but I don't like scientology, and he's a terrible actor.

I'm rather angry at who ever leaked it to be honest. If she was keeping it this much of a secret, not just from the media but from Cruise himself, chances are she's very worried or maybe even frightened.

Whoever leaked it probably thought "Oh look, I've got a great story I can sell for lots of money" not thinking or caring that there might be a good reason she's keeping it a secret.

No difference between Scientology and any kind of religious institution then.

Stick to Star Trek, it's much more interesting.

The Kate in question was in Batman Begins, beyond that, who cares?

^ Yes. With no other religion in the world will you ever find conclusive, written proof that one person made it up to make money. Only Scientology has that.

And, Jarod, no religion ever likes a follower to leave, but Scientology will work very hard to make you stay, there are some horror stories.
