I can't help thinking of this in light of the previous discussion about fitting in new TOS adventures in the 5-year mission.

Well, here's my thing - do I want to see 5YM stories all the time? No, I don't. But just as Bond never ages, that 5-year timespan is bigger on the inside simply because its a rich narrative backdrop for new writers to come in and attach their pens to. Its, to an extent, all about reinterpreting the setting subtly through new eyes - for instance, I only ever read the initial two Rihannsu books. Given the choice, though, I'd much rather read "That Which Divides", which is sitting on my shelf unread, than "Swordhunt", both because it has the thrill of the new, and because I've never read a Wardillmore 5YM book.

For that same reason, I'd love to see a 7YM TNG book by the likes of David Mack, Wardillmore, Mangels/Martin, or yourself (nor am I limiting the possibilities to those) - Do I want another PAD novel in that timespan? Not in particular. I've read 7 or 8 of those already. But the occasional "classic" novel would be much welcomed.

Besides that - casual readers who pick up a TOS book like "The Rings of Time" or "That Which Divides" aren't likely to look at the ongoing post-Destiny narrative as something worth their time. However, someone who picks up a classic TNG-novel, then finds out about the current goings-on would be more likely to become a convert, as the post-Destiny stuff directly relates to TNG.

Yeah, the notion of doing an "in-show" standalone now and then to serve as a hook may be sound.

I can sort of see why a fighter novel wouldn't work for Trek, but hey, doesn't mean I can't share it, eh? :)

Everyone else: you folks have some amazing ideas (I'd pay good money for a new DS9 relaunch book!)

Actually, it would. Using a little rationale and a case of "want to", one CAN make fighters work for Star Trek. Too easy, in fact. The wargame "Star Fleet Battles" does it quite well.

BUT, here's the thing, even then, fighters aren't going to be involved in workaday Starfleet. They generally are part of system or border patrols...or big fleet actions. General sector patrols and other things the average Starfleet vessel does? You probably won't see them. Scenarios can come up, but it won't be the normal routine.

But if someone were to do such a novel, I'd pick it up.

Same with one about Starfleet ground forces.

One thing nobody has yet mentioned is bringing back the Corps of Engineers series. But, given the current prices for each story, we'd have to have 4 books a year with 3 stories in each at the current price for the stories. That would do a lot better now that eBooks have really taken off.

I would not mind if the first 3 stories were recap stories to bring us up to the present so we know what's happened to everyone while we were gone from their part of the universe.

And the good thing because this is eBook only, it would not have to take up any of the 12 slots.

For that same reason, I'd love to see a 7YM TNG book...

It's closer to an 8YM if you count the time prior to Generations.

Though since I gravitate toward the less explored periods, I feel obligated to point out that the span of time from the launch of the Enterprise-E to Nemesis is very nearly equal to the entire lifespan of the Enterprise-D, and while there have been a fair number of stories set during the E-E era, they don't come anywhere close to filling it exhaustively.

Another eBook only series I think would be good would be the last missions of the crew of the TOS Enterprise. That includes Spock since he's no longer a Starfleet officer. So any of them that are either dead or no longer active we could get there story. We already know about Kirk and Scotty. So that leaves the rest of the stories to be told.

A point I have often noticed as well.

And I love that you would actually try to find a setting for a story rather than just plopping it down, regardless of weather there were already dozens of missions in that timeperiod already. Good job!

My wishlist of TrekLit:
-A stanalone or possible series exploring more of the little seen elements of the Federation or Starfleet (something like SCE or Articles of the Federation).
-A novel focused entirely on an alien crew (like the IKS Gorkon/KE series, but focused on either Cardassians, Romulans, Ferengi or one of the other major races)
-More Post-Destiny series specific stories
-A TP novel
-A DS9 gap filler (I'm not as mad about the gap as some people on here, but I would still love to see it filled in)
-A novel set during one of the series other than TOS.
I thought of some more stuff to fill out my list.
-More Titan
-Something by KRAD
-A Kelvin novel
-Something by James Swallow
-Something by William Leisner
-More Beyer VGR (I haven't read CoS yet, but I loved the other two and CoS seems to have gotten pretty much universal love)

Thinking about it more, I think I'd probably be more interested in a pre-Nemesis E-E novel, than a E-D novel. We already have probably over 200 (hell probably closer to 300 or 400 hundred if we include everything) stories set on the E-D and only a few dozen set on the E-E. The main appeal to an E-D story for me is more about getting stories by authors like you, David Mack, Ward/Dilmore, or James Swallow set during the era more than wanting more E-D stories.

I 'd to see another Enterprise-D novel I'd like to see a story that Data was an important part of the story' Also some Titan novels too. Also some Starfleet core of Engineer stories would be nice too.

I'd commission something from that bloke who wrote IFM.

(Oh come on, *all* the writers would commission themselves! Or maybe that's just a Dr Who editor thing...)

Yeah, but the editor in question does enough of that for a dozen Trek writers...

One of the things that prodded me to develop Ex Machina was that nobody had ever attempted to explore Spock's journey after his life-changing epiphany about emotion in TMP, or how he got from there to the serene, self-assured Spock we saw in subsequent movies.

And that's one of my very, very favorite things about Ex Machina. Spock is the Star Trek character I identify with and like the most; it's fair to say I was a Spock fan before I was a Star Trek fan. His personal journey has always been one of the things that I thought the movies (and Mr. Nimoy) did really well, in no small part because it's so subtle; in many cases, the difference in Spock's evolution is no bigger or more significant than Nimoy's playing the scene in a more relaxed way than his characterization in the original series would have called for.

Other than Ex Machina, there are only a handful of other books out there that highlight this changing, maturing Spock: Howard Weinstein's excellent The Covenant of the Crown, Carolyn Clowes' The Pandora Principle, and Ann Crispin's Time For Yesterday are the ones I can think of that do this the most, but I'd love to see Christopher in particular do more with this period. Also, the TMP-era Enterprise is just so cool....

^ My primary takeaway from the above is that I should really pick up a copy of Ex Machina ...

Yes. You should. So should a lot of people! ;)

1 - ENT Finale Novel
2 - ENT Short Story Anthology
3 - ENT Three-Novella Trade Paperback (set between Terra Prime and Finale Novel fleshing out/tying up loose ends)
4 - ENT Mirror Universe Book (following up from Age of the Empress and Nobunga)
5 & 6 - DS9 Duology set after The Soul Key wrapping up that arc
7 - DS9/Typhon Pact Novel
8 & 9 - New Frontier finale Duology
10 - VOY Relaunch #9
11 - Ex Machina Sequel
12 - TTN Novel
13 - Slings and Arrows Omnibus
14 - Myriad Universes #4

More or Less Wraps up two of the on-going series while continuing all of the other ones. There's not a book here I wouldn't buy. I wish I could say the same about the usual lineup. I'm beyond tired of TOS 5YM stories.

This is what I would pick. Though I haven't read any of the DS9 relaunch yet so my ideas there are not solid:

1 next Titan novel
2 DS9 Anniversary special/full circle type duology part 1 (filling in the gap)
3 DS9 Anniversary special/full circle type duology part 2
4 TOS 5YM
5Typhon Pact—aventine heavy
6 Beyer’s next VOY novel
7 launch of some kind of new series…perhaps the Adventures of Noonien Soong? stories of terraforming and android building in the Omicron Theta colony?
8 TNG post-destiny
9 New Frontier Finale Part 1
10 New Frontier Finale Part 2
11 ENT finale or Anthology of short stories
12 TOS post TMP-era

Twelve DS9 books.

I would be quite happy with that schedule,

here is my own pop at it

1. Aventine Novel
2. Typhon Pact Era (TNG/DS9/Aventine Ongoing)
3. DS9 (20th Anniversary Trilogy covering Jan 2377 - Feb 2381)
4. DS9 (20th Anniversary Trilogy covering Jan 2377 - Feb 2381)
5. DS9 (20th Anniversary Trilogy covering Jan 2377 - Feb 2381)
6. Typhon Pact Era (TNG/DS9/Aventine Ongoing)
7. Typhon Pact Era (TNG/DS9/Aventine Ongoing)
8. New Frontier (Finale Duology Book 1)
9. New Frontier (Finale Duology Book 2)
10. Myriad Universe 4
11. Myriad Universe 5
12. DS9 Ongoing (Post DRGIII Duology)

The DS9 Trilogy and Ongoing novel I would have written by DRGIII. Although I love New Frontier the releases are so rare it is time to wrap it up. It would be great to see the Excalibur in the post Destiny universe (these would be written by PAD). An Aventine book would be great by David Mack. then the Typhon Pact novels would be written by David Mack, Una McCormack and KRAD.

If it were up to me:

- New DS9 moving forward
- AND the untold story of the Ascendants (what can I say, I love me some DS9)
- NF finale (yes, finale - it's time for this to end.)
- I like the idea of a Ent-D novel featuring Data.
- Beyer's next VOY novel is a must.
- Something cool for David Mack to do, now that MU and Vanguard are over.
- In general, plenty of 24th century Typhon Pact / TNG stuff.
- Absolutely anything by Ilsa J. Bick, Una McCormack, William Leisner, and/or James Swallow. Surprise me.
