Falling Skies - Season 2- discussion/Spoilers

They did run a promo that Wil Weaton was hosting a web show on TNT which seemed to be based on The Talking Dead, only it seem to show a studio audience

I was hoping a little more would've come from Tom's time with the aliens. Same dickish aliens, very little insight. Not too surprising as most seemingly gamechanging cliffhangers get resolved unsatisfyingly returning to the status quo.

The show's an OK timekiller but the aliens schizo tech has never quite made sense. Maybe this bunch are the really dumb expendibles the smart aliens send out to do the dirty work.

Why did the aliens shoot all the prisoners after letting them go and only spare Tom? Why did the aliens drop him off in Maryland and make him walk home? My current theory is that the tall aliens are teenagers and they're just screwing with the planet for kicks until they have to go back to school.

I was nice seeing Luciana Carro and Ryan Robbins :D

and what the heck is up with Red Eye?

One final gripe I have with this show is that the music is still strident, an unfortunate trait carried over from the first season. Whoever composes the synth heavy crap with generic compositions should be fired on the spot.

BANZAI!!!!!

Actually I would like that as an explanation. At least it's somewhat original.

I think they were attempting to send a message. Move into our sanctuary/prison camp or this will be your fate. In other words to send a crystal clear message that a failure to comply would have extreme consequences.

Why did the aliens drop him off in Maryland and make him walk home?
The only logical explanation is that the alien he met with is based in Michigan not MA. Since interstellar travel isn't a problem for them a few hundred miles is a cake walk.

They may have wanted him to do reconnaissance on his trek back to MA.

Not really, didn’t “Explorers” have that a bit? Well, not as bad guys, but kid-aliens just the same.

Now that I think about it, there even was a DuckTales episode with that premise...
Still, I think I would like something along those lines, they're just being party crashers, at the end of the series they simply go and leave behind a devastated planet and most of humanity dead, like kids playing with an anthill.

The aliens said to Tom, you're fucked, you're dead, there's no where you can hide, if your people don't settle on the reservation we're building for you, you're all dead. Dead, dead, dead" ...But Tom didn't believe them.

So they let him go in a field with some other cattle, and they said "Tom, you're free, run. Be free. Oh, flock together with some friends. You know you're Moses. Lead them to the promised land... Cool? Oh. That's right, we said that everyone is dead Tom. You didn't believe us Tom. Why didn't you believe us Tom? Why? So lets just show you what that looks like Tom when we kill everyone we want to kill because we feel like killing everyone and you can't stop us, hell baby, the only humans that will live are the ones that we want to live, and that's you Tom and the scraps you can get to surrender and supplicate. Look at the bodies Tom. Corpses everywhere. Can you smell that? Smells like victory! Why ain't you dead? Don't be a fucktard Tom, you can live because we want to prove to you that Humanity is finished unless it's on our terms, and that is why you're alive, because we think you should be alive until we don't, so you better get with the fucking program and round up some breeding pairs to settle in the neutral zone before we change our minds and just bomb you from orbit."

It was a lesson in impotence.

In a couple episodes from now, Pope is going to figure out that Mechs and Skitters not only don't target Tom, but they walk/run straight past him. No one is allowed to hurt him. Tom is like Connor MacLeod in the beginning of highlander when no one in the battle would fight him and it pissed im off until Mister Krabs stuck him.

Tom is Moses, not fertilizer like everyone else out side of THE NEUTRAL ZONE.

(Holy shit, I forgot that they called it that.)

THE NEUTRAL ZONE!

These fuckles in the Falling Skies Writers Room have no shame.

Though it's almost proof that their culture of radio wave sensitive life forms were destroyed/crippled by Earth's early TV transmissions, that they're naming their shit after stuff from Star Trek.

There was one major faux pas in characterization, which is that a history professor in the US wouldn't call the proposed areas for humans to live "reservations." But then some conservatives would get offended for America bashing by comparing alien conquerors to "US."

As for the reason Tom survived the massacre, I'm quite sure that it was supposed to be against the Overlords' orders, that that one Skitter deliberately let Tom go because that Skitter was so pleased by Tom's tasering the Overlord. "Crikey, that one's got spunk!" (The translation is gratis.;))

Incidentally, the little animated "electricty" with the go'a'uld pain sticks was surprisingly corny for this series VFX. Possibly another bad sign about the new team.

While I'm enjoying all the exposition on the new season, I'm growing increasingly frustrated that the show hasn't popped up on On Demand yet.. I've got to get better at setting the DVR... Same issue with the new True Blood... What's the point of having On Demand if they won't post new episodes a day after they run?

I was lucky, Falling Skies came up on Monday for me, but, as of yesterday, I'm still waiting for Legend of Korra from last week (On Demand is 1 week and a couple days behind live episodes) and several times, I've waited until Wednesday for Once Upon a Time. It seems the HD versions are more reliable to come up the following day, I must get my boxes upgraded.

Fair point... Maybe i'll do that today at lunch... My only issue with watching on line is that, well, I don't like watching shows on my computer.. But.. Gotta do what I gotta do.. Thanks!

^^ I didn't check for Falling Skies because I recorded it, but True Blood was right there on Monday. It seems weird that it depends on the local cable company; you'd think it would be the same for a particular channel everywhere.

Now you're just rubbing it in. :(

It seems to me that's exactly what he'd call them.

That's a really good idea. It may be foreshadowing dissension among the invaders.
