Continuum the new tv series!

I think I heard the phrase "North American Union", and I am wondering if the Union was a successor to NAFTA and other trade agreements, combined with increased privatization of public services. Privatize the police and you're basically at corporate dictatorship already.
 
670,000 for the second episode. A sharp drop, but still great numbers for Showcase (Lost Girl pulls in c300,000).

Latest episode was an improvement over last week's.
In the end though, when a show's brief flash forwards to the future prove to be the most sapid parts, there's a problem.
Wish this show had never gone down the tired time travel path and played it straight with terrorists causing havoc in a corporate governed society. Maybe they did it for budgetary reasons, or maybe the producers like downtown Vancouver. :)

The scenes in the future are cool and I do wish they had have just stuck with that. Obviously, that would have jacked the budget up which is why they didn't do that, but whatever.

The storyline was by the numbers. Mr Kellog has definately left the gang and the psycho Asian dude has been killed. The house at the end being booby-trapped was so obvious I was screaming "check of a booby-trap" at the TV.

Kiera once again threatens to track down the ancestors of the gang to prevent their birth. At this point, I suspect this is going to be on one of them, perhaps in the finale.
 
And "Herbert George"??

C'MON! Kiera! That's fricking blatant!

That frak must have searched the entire city looking for a good time pun to line up the cross hairs on his trap.
 
Now THAT was more like it. The third episode was tight, smart, and even managed some sympathy for the terrorists. The first really good episode. Aside from the formulaic mandatory shootout, I was, finally, quite impressed.
 
When I was 6 years old, I read a Judge Dredd comic where a criminal tried to use a lawgiver (Dredds gun) on Dredd, and got his ass handed to him because it was gene locked... Doesn't the lawgiver electrocute unathorized users in the old movie?

At about the same point in my life I heard exposition about an exploding 6 year old on M*A*S*H* taking out a squad of marines.

And honestly what idiot doesn't know what the tracking function to that gun looks/feels like? He's an idiot, ignorant or he knew he was leading kiera back to his buddies.

It's not secret technology.

It would be like some one in the modern day thinking that a cops pepper spray is airfreshener or their their nightswtick is a half a set of chopsticks.

Interesting that you bring this up, as I was basically of the same opinion when I saw that scene. Guess the writer decided that advancing the plot was more important than ensuring logic prevails. :)

And he came back to the hide out on purpose. That's my theory anyways. He wasn't expecting Doctor Andromeda-okay, it's the third episode, I really should start memorizing their names, to see the tracker penetration mark, and clumsily fabricated the lame story. :)
Doc mentioned the tracker would be in his bloodstream for 24 hours before dissipating. All he needed to do was stay away and on the move until it wore off.

They can't employ the Biff Stratagem.

I can see this being a class at Starfleet Academy "How to make money when you're trapped in the past 101."

It's a good thing that they're magnificent at computer fraud.

Heh, when I first heard "Herbert George" I immediately thought "as in Wells?" and it turns out that's what it was. I groaned.

That's another problem I have, she's only from 60 years in the future, but Kiera is ignorant about everything in the modern day. I'm no expert on the 1950s and would probably completely lost were I stuck there, but come on. Take for example last week, Alec had to explain to her what INTERPOL was. Even if we accept that INTERPOL no longer exists in the 2070s, some other similar agency likely does, and as a law enforcement officer, wouldn't Kiera be aware of it and possibly its history? Hell, didn't she ever study the history of law enforcement, if for no other reason then because she has an interest in her job?

The show is getting far too hung up on the fish out of water aspect of a time traveller stuck in the past, and as a result it's making that particular character look stupider than she should be.

Honestly, the only one's who's names I can remember are Kiera. Carlos, Alec and Kellog. Kiera, Carlos, and Alec I only remember since they basically are the leads. Kellog I only remember because of the cereal.

Everyone else, I just refer to by their actor's name.
 
have you noticed that she has no futuristic idioms?

"Whats your Boggle?" is one of my favourites.

"That's shale" still makes me cringe.

And what about Impulse in Young justice last week going on about "mode" this and "crash" that.

She lives in a dictatorship.

It's possible that freethinking hippies and counter culture is outlawed or frowned upon.

Something so incredible happens in the final season of Eureka that Vincent becomes a Luddite! Both characters have the same name being portrayed by the same actor... It doesn't take a genius to stop something like that from happening. Chris Gauthier probably shut the fuck up and let it play out laughing his ass off.

And that general looked, and more importantly acted like Colonel Mayborne from Staragate...

They made the same mistake Lois made in the Superman movie. Saying millions, when she really meant billions, but it's actually closer to everyone in the world now and every one who will ever be born, and every one that should of be born who won't... Which is a very large number if we don't die out in the early 22nd century.

It's episode four and only now does someone anticipate that Kiera might be playing god?

If a baby or a child dies prematurely, does the parent inherit the debt or is it spread out amongst the siblings?

This is like that awful shitty "In Time" movie.

Maybe the debt doesn't become active until you're an adult by making it to some arbitrary birthday?

Starship troopers lore suggests that that's why Kiera joined the military.

Service pays off the debt quickly and once your bank account is in the black, you get to live well like it seems she does?

Kiera is going to go back to the future and stick her foot up his ass.
 
Has there been anything announced about this being aired in the US? It looks interesting and I'd love to check it out.

but they're probably using the same business model as Lost Girl which airs on SYFY about 6 months (maybe?) after Canada is done with the initial product...

Nothing gratuitous.

Does that mean that network TV would never air it (early evening?) without censoring the bugger or altering the language?

Yes, because we give a damn about law and morality, and because we understand that creators of works we want to see can't keep making those works if they don't get the payment they're entitled to (which in the case of TV series comes through ad revenues, which are dependent on people actually watching them on TV or legal, ad-supported streams). If there's a legal way to watch the show online, one that the creators will actually be compensated for, then by all means, provide a link for us. Otherwise, don't even bring it up.

(The episodes are being streamed from Showcase.com, but that might be restricted to Canada. There's a legal link to the first episode a couple pages back which might still be active.)

I don't leave a foot print, living on the under ass of the planet waiting 2 to three years for Foreign TV to arrive inside my 20 year old television... What I do or do not do has zero impact on US and Candian ratings since I'm not supposed to be watching Continuum till 2015, and even then, no one will know if I watch it or go to the movies... La de dah, however lets have a moment of compassion for the Nielson Families.

Everything they do matters.

There's that episode of Night court where a Nielson family was dragged before Judge Harry and they refused to stop watching a hand held TV. They claimed that becuase they had to go to a funeral in 1969, that some Suit cancelled Star Trek.

but in an extreme world today of so many choices...

These poor families are stuck in the 80s denied the modern world so that we can have the TV we have to day.

How brave.

How noble.

If just one errant aberrant child from a Nielson Family sneaks off to watch Youtube... SOMETHING DIES!!!!

What an awesome responsibility and heinous curse.
