They're all comic book stores in the city limits of Springfield MO. Don't try BN, they're useless when it comes to comic books - the magazine, sure, but comics, not so much.

Well, I finally got around to picking Issue 1 up today, and I enjoyed it. Yes, it is primarily a Doctor Who story with Star Trek elements thrown in, but it's a good Doctor Who story. I wonder if this is how they plan on starting off, issue 1 primarily a Who story, issue 2 primarily a Trek story and from there both together?

Did anyone catch this injoke. Although not integral to the plot, I'll spoiler code it since it is from the second-last page and I don't want anyone wishing to be "pure" to bitch about it.

When the TARDIS arrives in 1940s San Fransisco (which I suspect is actually the Dixon Hill program on the Enterprise's holodeck) it lands on 4th Street, outside Tom's Bakery. I groaned, and so has everyone I've told.

LOL, I think that spoiler is awesome, and not Groan worthy at all (And I'm not a Comic Reader, for at least the last 25 - 30 years) [Hangs head in Fanwankery Shame for support of the Spoiler :alienblush:]

I really despise the art. It's bad enough to make me drop the book and I was really looking forward to this thing...I'll give the next issue a chance though to change my mind, but I think I'll be dropping this.

Amazon isn't always trust worthy...but I did see a listing for the trade for an October release. I think Oct 25 or something like that.

Hmm lots of people seem to hate the art, I thought it was great.

The art is certainly different, but I don't see cause to complain about it. Besides, IDW has had similar artwork in previous Trek comics (like the Captain Jellico comic book) and no one complained then.

Didn't complain because I never read those issues. I liked painted art work in comics...but this specific type of style is just bizarre looking to me. The characters looked scanned or photoshopped. I was expecting more traditional art work, like we got in the Legion crossover.

Pesonally, I think the art will grow on everyone by the time the series is done.

If the writing improves, the art won't bother me as much, I thought the story overall was pretty meh for a first issue, again...Star Trek/Legion started off with a bang. This felt slower paced than that. I'm willing to give it once more issue.

Just picked mine up from the shop yesterday and I have to say I'm very impressed.. I love the painted feel of the art and the in-character writing. Nice nod to have the Deltans in the story.

One of my favorite Batman books is "alternative timeline" story about Batman working with Harry Houdini.. The art is very similar and fit the mood of the story completely.

I actually agree with Rich's Bleeding Cool review of the issue. He expresses the points I felt were missing from the issue, quite nicely. I get why it was written the way it was and why we're introduced to the plot on Delta, the way we were (which was nice to see), I just felt the entire story was lacking. Probably due to my too high expectations. Usually I never feel this kind of a let down, but yeah, just wasn't feeling it with issue one.

Thanks, everyone, for the store info!

Despite their lack of comics, Barnes 'n' Noble has a pretty impressive collection of other Doctor Who books. They've even got the compendiums of the Classic Who comics.

^^Book stores are fine if you're looking for the graphic novel compilations of a particular comic book series, but for actual comic books you're better off at an actual comic book store.

Agreed. Speaking for myself, I am going to wait for the compilation of this one.

There's definitely going to be two volumes -- the first, covering issues 1 through 4, is out in September (and up for order on Amazon already); the second, covering the rest of the series, will be out in spring.

At work we think, but don't actually know, that IDW will then do a hardcover collecting all eight issues in time for next Christmas (and the Doctor Who 50th anniversary), since the first trade paperback will be out in time for this Christmas and the Next Generation 25th-anniversary. Also, Star Trek/Legion is getting a hardcover this month, Infestation got a hardcover last year. It wouldn't make sense for IDW to miss out on doing a complete hardcover.

Only if it gets better and looks less photoshopped.
