Follow up to "Conspiracy"

We know that the original concept for the Conspiracy arc eventually morphed into the Borg storyline. However since the two ideas don't really match up, I'm wondering if any of the novels ever followed up with that plot?

The Deep Space Nine: Misson Gamma books deal with this -- although it doesn't become promienent until near the end of the four book series. There's a hardcover that takes place after Mission Gamma that also deals with the parasites.

The DS9 Relaunch focused on that plotline heavily actually.

DS9 relaunch gamma books, followed by Unity & then volume two of worlds of ds9 dealing with it most prominently. Can't say I particularly like the way the books went with it myself.

The Borg were originally intended to be an insectoid species to mesh with the idea of a hive mind, but this had to be cut back due to budget constraints.

It's actually first brought up in The Lives of Dax; Audrid's story focuses on the parasites. Then it becomes a big part of the DS9 Relaunch as mentioned, in the Mission: Gamma books, Unity and Worlds of DS9: Trill. I thought it was pretty excellent myself. :techman:

I haven't read it yet, but I believe that the Parasites also appeared in a TNG comic (or comic arc), which is inconsistent with the DS9 arc.

Yeah, that was DC's TNG Annual #3, "The Broken Moon." I don't recall what the inconsistencies are, though.

The stuff with the parasites was one of my favorite elements of the DS9 Relaunch, along with the Andorian story arc.

I don't think that there are any inconsistencies between "The Broken Moon" and the development of the parasites a decade later in the DS9 relaunch series, although the stories obviously had independent geneses. So the parasites infiltrated a state neighbouring the Federation before they went on to try to take over Bajor, so what?

Oh, I could have sworn this had come up in the past and someone mentioned it being inconsistent with the DS9 story.

I think having just finished the Trill novella, I may boot up the comic-cd and give the Annual a whirl and see if it's terribly inconsistent. I do think that the planet name - Onglatuu according to Memory Alpha - was mentioned as "An incident" in Unity or Lesser Evil, as I recall seeing the name before.
