^ I agree that he's a good actor. Just not right for this role.

Why does he have to have a brooding quality?
First, I agree, if the movie is going to be about The Highlander Connor McLeod, Ryan Reynolds is probably not appropriate casting, it should be someone more appropriately Scottish.
That was the 1980s, when the world was cheezy, it's a different world today and audiences expect different things then they did then.First, I agree, if the movie is going to be about The Highlander Connor McLeod, Ryan Reynolds is probably not appropriate casting, it should be someone more appropriately Scottish.
Because they did that in the original film![]()

He's immortal, all his friends, everyone he loves is going to grow old and die. And he is going to stay the same. I'd be pretty damned depressed too if I was in his position.
So yes, I think brooding does need to be a quality the new Connor is going to have to have.

^ So the fact that you can do something badly and still make money precludes us from wanting to see it done well?

That's not what i said. I merely disagree with the notion that cinema audiences are now all erudite discerning individuals who will dislike a film if everyone doesn't have the correct accent.
Of course it should be done right, with a well cast lead who fits the role they are creating. But to determine an actors suitability solely on whether or not they can do a decent scottish accent is ridiculous.

Not to mention that determining an actors suitability in a remake on whether or not they look like the original actor is also ridiculous.
I like Ryan Reynolds but WTF? Are there no European actors left in Europe? Are there no French or Welsh Scottsmen available?
