Twilight Zone looks great, I agree... but in terms of effort, TNG is far more painstaking and difficult to bring to Blu-ray. For Zone, all CBS had to do was scan the existing cut negatives. They didn't have to do a re-assembly of the edit or put VFX together again from scratch.

Ill wait till it drops to 70 Dollars. Why is it almost 120 dollars for only the first season. Seems a bit overkill at that price.

No retail outlet would likely sell it at the full SRP. Look for prices similar to the DVD Empire price of $79.99. I'm hopeful competition will drive it down to $64.99 or even $59.99 by release day.

I'm thinking of just waiting for the entire boxset to come out. By the time it rolls around it should be cheaper to buy that than 7 seperate seasons.

That's what I'm going to do too. I still regret buying the DVDs at such a high price when they first came out. Should have just waited.

This might be something I get from Itunes if it becomes available. I would love to see all the special features though, but the heart of it is the series itself and I have a feeling it's going to be available digitally. Might be cheaper too.

Yea, I find myself very attracted to a box set with lots of Special Features, but, truth be told, I hardly ever get around to watching them, perhaps I'll watch them the first time through as I did with DS9, but, I've now watched the box sets again, and didn't bother with the Special Features. Lord of the Rings, I've w2atched my Special Extended Editions twice, and never watched the Special Features, etc.

As already stated above, most retailers will probably sell these much below $120 a pop. It was the same way with the DVDs back in the day. Sure if you want to be a sucker you can buy full retail, but you can probably find them between 80-90, I'm betting.

For years, people have been begging for TNG in HD, but were always told the technical limitations would be too cost prohibitive. Of course I wish they were going to be sold cheaper, but considering the time and effort being put into the restoration and upgrade, I think the price is reasonable and the fans are finally getting what most of us have wanted for years.

Until I bought "The Next Level" sampler and fired it up on my 55 in. LED and surround sound system, I didn't know what we were dealing with. But the first time I saw the ship on the screen in the opening credits in full HD, my mind was made up and there's no going back (to SD) for me!

Agreed, but I was referring to the copious amounts of special features on the Twilight Zone sets (commentaries and isolated scores for almost every episode, other bonus features as well), not the difficulty of converting the series into HD.

After having payed $120.00 a season for all seven season TNG when they were originaly released on DVD. I am not so quick to jump at getting them again Blu-Ray.

I will get them on itunes and cherry pick like I do with TOS remasterd on iTunes.

I understand CBS think that since it Star Trek fan will again pay $120 per season for seven seasons.

Sorry but if Jag is about $50 as many other TV sears on DVD or Blu-Ray a season. Why does Star Trek always seem to be relased double of that.

Wished it was $70 a season or even less and CBS would make back a lot more on their investment.

$118 a season was just the number marketing throws out there. Most retailers will be selling them for between $70 and $90. The place in the TrekToday story Antony linked in the OP says they are selling it for $79.99

Amazon also puts stuff on sale at half or more off after about a year. That's when I got my box set of BSG.

But I think what was posted above is right, competition should bring the price down top under $100 per season.

If that happens though, we'll also start seeing prices vary for each season. Seasons 1 & 2 would be less expensive than seasons 3 - 6 and Season 7 might be more expensive.

The stories might be weaker in season 7, but the finale is great and IMO I think they will do a good deal of work on All Good Things...

Amazon usually only puts up a pre-order status when they're 100% sure of a release date.

Monty Python & The Holy Grail had a tentative release of Jan.2012, but Amazon didn't put up anything till the March 2012 release date was established.

I think they figure they're big enough not to worry about being the first one to offer a pre-order.

Agreed, but I was referring to the copious amounts of special features on the Twilight Zone sets (commentaries and isolated scores for almost every episode, other bonus features as well), not the difficulty of converting the series into HD.

No argument there. Sadly TNG's never going to have commentaries on every episode or isolated scores (there would be a lot of silence anyway -- most episodes only had between 20-25 minutes of music). Though, there were a handful of commentaries recorded for select episodes on DVD and they may be incorporated in later sets. Of course, most of the memorable scores are available via audio CD releases and I've got those -- you've got to pay extra money to get them though.

On the plus side based on the announced specs, TNG seems to have more video documentary content (both SD and HD) than Twilight Zone -- most of Zone's special features are of an audio only nature.

Add in the fact that all of TNG's teleplays are freely available on the internet and it may be a case of six of one, half a dozen of the other.

I'll gladly pay the $80 or so it will cost from Amazon and would probably have went as high as $100 if that had been the price. This is a "must own" title in my home video library. I realize I'm at the extreme end of the fandom / disposable income spectrum.

Thedigitalbits reported the confirmed street date (July 24) on the first of May. So Amazon's had plenty of time to put up a preorder.

I will wait till they are giving them away for 50-60 bucks per season because they cant get rid of all the stock they have and are losing money. Especially at a time like this with the world wide economy on the verge of collapse and people everywhere out of work. Greedy Bastards...

The MSRP for the TOS Blu-rays was $129.99 a season. I picked each set up, new, release week and didn't pay more than $65.00 a season.
