Kirk and Uhura are going to hook up in the next film...WATCH

Cumberbund is downright fugly.

As a guy whose been told many, many times in his life that he's "fugly" - and much worse - even by total strangers passing in the street, I can only reiterate that I'd swap looks with Benedict any day.
First off, I think you're a very polite guy and that's an attractive quality in any man. You need to stop believing what you hear. It's not true. You will say that every night before you turn in. Not everyone can be a raving beauty, speaking from personal experience, and I had to overcome a lot.

As for Star Trek, apart from the instructors you see from afar, do they have ugly female characters? Are Alice Eve, Elly Kaye, Nazneen Contractor and Kraisit Agnew ugly? BC is supposed to played a genetically enhanced character. It would be more believable if he were a Klingon augment. They didn't pick and choose who to deliver the virus too. Human augments from the late 20th century were chosen and someone who had flaws would have met a very short end.

I guess what I'm saying is, if the guys get their gorgeous, leggy gals, why can't we women have our gorgeous, chesty hunks.

Never said I believe them, but after fifty years of such comments, it's still hard to ignore/forgive/understand.

do they have ugly female characters?

Maybe you'd have to ask Moogie, or the Duras sisters, although the actresses themselves are quite lovely, not to mention buxom.

I was talking about Abrams movies. I'm not blind, I know what the Duras sisters looked like. I'm 55 and I learned many years ago that some people have probably been educated beyond their intelligence. It's a good thing to remember when they open their mouths and ruin every nice perception someone may have had about them.

So I just picked up the recent star trek ongoing issue which takes place in the new timeline and I am telling you that Spock is an ignorant tool.

In Star Trek Ongoing 8, Kirk indirectly tells Spock that he would sleep with Uhura tens times over and Spock does not respond.

So my guess for the romantic plot in the 2013 film is this:

Uhura will realise that Spock is just to Vulcan (robotic) for her and will dump him of Kirk.
Spock will then decide that the best choice for him is to follow his father’s footsteps and purge all of his emotions like he originally intended to do. I mean he would have done that in the first film if not of his mother.

I am not kidding this is the romantic plot of this sequel.

Most people are saying that Alice eve will be a romantic interest for Kirk but I doubt it. Alice Eve is probably playing a klingon.
I just picked up my issue yesterday and read it. Cupcake finally has a name, but I'm not going to say it here. Kirk said that he would rather go 10 rounds with Uhura as opposed to explaining his actions with Pike, which means he'd rather argue with Uhura than Pike, who did not like what he did, at all, despite the reasoning. I don't think that there is any possibility that Kirk is going to interfere in the S/U romance.

It would be so much better if Spock decided to get back at Uhura by hooking up with Kirk.

Why would Spock be getting back at Uhura? Granted, she's mad at him for doing something stupid, but Kirk did something just as stupid and involved three other people and Spock. He didn't even ask the three people if they wanted to risk the rest of their lives.Even Spock would find fault with that.

Well, she does go for guys with unusual looks, like Spock, but Cumberbund is downright fugly. Maybe she thinks he's got that Elephant Man disease and feels sorry for him? Either that, or she needs glasses.

Agreed. He may have bulked up for the part, but quite honestly, he can keep that shirt on and hoodie zipped up to the neck, and the opening pulled shut.
Eh...I' ve never drooled over him, and I've mostly only seen stills of him with a serious stoic look, never watched him on a show or moving period. His face is rather long looking, but, the weight appears to be changing that, from pics I've seen since then, plus the bangs is another trick to give his face an impression of being smaller. With his "Super Hero Jawline" and the really pretty eye color, plus those aesthetic changes, I think we may be surprised what Movie Magic can make him look like. I'm not expecting to drool after seeing him in the movie either, but, I suspect he won't be "strange looking" anymore and may be very "Biff" looking.

Therin of Andor, I'm very sorry people have abused you like that, I value your posts, many times you've corrected my faux pas with information that's almost right. You should be valued for your smarts not abused for what others perceive as shortcomings.

Okay, I feel compelled to throw down even if all disagree (and I respect your opinions). On the subject of the fugly and to a lesser extent the white re: Cumberbatch I have these to say (video interview starting at 1:00, and pics from tabloid article):

And on the subject of intelligence and thoughtfulness being the most appealing characteristics in anyone I have this (radio interview with Cumberbatch on PRI):

Just sayin'

On the subject of the fugly and to a lesser extent the white re: Cumberbatch

So exactly what are you "just sayin'"?

People who claim he's "too fugly" aren't going to be swayed either way by more images, moving or still. People who think Cumberbatch a "hottie" aren't going to be swayed either way by more images.

My point was that I am extremely tired of fans casting negative, insulting, unnecessary judgements upon actors (and all other human beings) on the basis of their physical appearance.

My sincere apologies for the unecessary images. No one forced you to look at them and I know some are interested and in fact somewhat swayed. (Not those throwing around derogatory terms but others who are just curious about the appeal they don't-yet-see)

I should add here that given the rampant speculation (silly as it may be this far out) on Cumberbatch's character, people I believe want to gather proof for their respective opinions, and seeing that he is somewhat tan and muscular (although not Khan level) might be of interest to them either way.

I agree with you about casting judgments. The main point of my final link (and to some extent the video) was to suggest that in fact many who find Cumberbatch "hot" actually do so because he is extremely intelligent and articulate and that (as it should) often has a much larger impact on appeal than traditional ideals of physical beauty.

Oh for goodness sake, I looked at them to try and work out what you were meaning - and I still don't see what you were trying to prove or disprove about the actor. How are these moving images saying more than stills people have already posted?

and I know some are interested and in fact somewhat swayed.

Who was somewhat swayed?

Except the "fugly" comment was about his face.

...traditional ideals of physical beauty.

Amazing that the "physical beauty" of a male Star Trek villain is even being debated. It didn't seem to worry the character actors who played Kruge, Sybok, Gorkon, Ru'Afo or the Reman Viceroy.
