Season 2 Klingons

...for my money the worst of the worst was William Campbell....a MARVELOUS actor...improperly utilized and arguably miscast in his role as a Klingon.

He was BRILLIANT as Trelane...but as a low budget Klingon.....sorry.
Agreed. Can't argue with that.

Imagine if they'd gone ahead and had Koloth in "Day of the Dove" instead of Kang. Same dialogue and attitude and sword fight with Kirk at the end, just instead of Kang, we had an angry, snarling Koloth ranting about having Kirk's head stuffed and mounted on his cabin wall.

Hmm, something tells me Koloth would have wanted to stuff something else of Kirk's. :wtf:

Sincerely,

Bill

And the stereotypes fly.

There was nothing gay about William Campbell's Koloth performance.

These jokes about gays wanting to "stuff" everything are tiresome and frankly offensive.

Also, Bill Campbell made a name for himself playing gangsters, soldiers, in general very tough characters. Trelane was very much a case of Roddenberry casting against type; even then, there are times during that performance where he gets pretty damn dark (probably a lot darker than they would've gotten if they'd gone the logical route and cast Liberace).

As for Koloth, he was playing him as a very slick, devious character, the kind of guy who'd just as soon cut your throat as order a pizza, who we just happen to be catching on a good day.

I apologize. It's evident that zinger crossed the line. Forgive me?

Sincerely,

Bill

Sure. I'm sure it wasn't intentionally offensive, but unthinking rudeness is still rude, which is why I spoke up.

I don't think a lot of people realize that these endless snarks about supposed gays wanting to bang or get banged isn't much removed from things like
cocksucker and fudge-packer
and other stereotypes of sex obsession. Straight men: don't flatter yourselves. You're not that hot. ;)

If it's any consolation, I doubt either gender would find me stimulating. Imagine a middle aged, somewhat overweight (though not obese) Ernie Douglass from "My Three Sons". (Seriously, when I was the equivalent age, I could have been the child actor's stand-in.)

Sincerely,

Bill
