Young Justice-Tonight!

Lots of reveals today, I'm kind of glad they didn't drag this stuff out forever. Heck, even "Red Sun" was done with.

Some random thoughts:

After seeing Batman so venerated for so long it felt strange seeing him get easily chumped.

Similarly it seemed odd that Artemis would shoot a bladed arrow at Sportsmaster. I mean, he knocked it away, but if he hadn't she couldn've easily killed her father. OTOH, on the opposite side, I did like sister saving her.

New recruits, I felt Icon was a little too stoic and Rocket(!) was a little too sassy. Maybe if they gave a little of one to the other.... At least for me, who has little experience with recent DC comics it was nice too see some different characters than I'm used to seeing.

Once you go white martian....

It sounds funny comes from a news reporter, "Once known as Speedy he is now Red Arrow."

All the beans were spilled at once. Surprising. though, of course someone had to know about Artemis. The good guys aren't that dumb.

I guessed the team getting the starro thingies was a set-up.

The show's Riddler sucks. They seem to have fun with lesser known baddies, but the known ones underwhelm. Luthor is adequate but a bit generic. Joker didn't work for me.

Refreshing. If had been Brave & the Bold or even Justice League, he'd have figured all out or been so suspicious to take precautions. In fact, I still wouldn't be surprised if he were faking it.

Red Arrow: "I was the mole?"

Vandal Saavy: "Yes, you were the mole on the team before you even became part of the team. That's how intricate our plan was."

No idea who either character is. But the team need a sassy black girl since they have a hot headed latina and a red head with a fiery temper (amusing since fire is her weakness).

I'm sure what their abilities are. Research time.

Once you go white martian....

I like the way M'gann's true form is about as hideous as possible, with the possible exceptions of tentacles and constant drooling.

Yeah, the Riddler was a bit underwhelming, but at least he offered an actual riddle in the classic format, and I loved the "am bush" pun.

I thought this was the season finale, but it turns out that's actually next week, and this was the setup for it. Anyway, I'm glad that things are finally coming to a head, though all the reveals at once felt a bit contrived.

Icon and Rocket are characters from Milestone Comics, the line that also gave us Static, and that's now been merged into the DC Universe. Like Static, they were created by the late Dwayne McDuffie. I think it's a good tribute to add them to the show (although I would've liked to see Static join the team).

But the team need a sassy black girl since they have a hot headed latina and a red head with a fiery temper (amusing since fire is her weakness).

Huh? There isn't a Latina on the team. I think Zatanna is Italian-American, since her father's first name is Giovanni, but I wouldn't call her hotheaded. The only hotheaded female team member is Artemis, who's Anglo-Vietnamese.

Italians are Latinos. And Miss Martian turns in Michelle Rodriguez during the commercial breaks.

No, I thought Artemis' mom was hispanic. Wikipedia confirms you are correct.

And Miss Martian isn't really a red head or even seems to have hair at all.

Still wondering how the LIGHT knew Red Arrow would join both Young Justice and then be admitted to the Justice League.

Italians are Latinos.

Umm, no. As Wikipedia puts it:
A Latino or Latina is a person considered part of an ethnic background that is traditionally Spanish-speaking, especially a citizen of, or an immigrant from, a Spanish-speaking country. The term latino is used to refer to males only or a combination of males and females in a group, whereas the term latina is used to refer to females only.

In the United States, the term is in official use in the ethnonym Hispanic or Latino, defined as "a person of Cuban, Mexican, Puerto Rican, South or Central American, or other Spanish culture or origin regardless of race."[1][2] The term is also used in Spain as a term of self-identification for immigrants from Hispanoamerica.

It's probably short for latinoamericano, i.e. someone from Latin America.

No, I thought Artemis' mom was hispanic. Wikipedia confirms you are correct.

:wtf: But she's played by Kelly Hu, she has a thick Asian accent, and her maiden name (also her daughter Jade's surname) is Nguyen.

Still wondering how the LIGHT knew Red Arrow would join both Young Justice and then be admitted to the Justice League.

Well, if he's been the mole from the start, it was probably the Light's programming that led him to branch out as a solo hero in the first place. Presumably the purpose of that was to get him to establish himself as an effective enough hero that the League would recruit him as a full member. As for joining "the Team" (Young Justice is the name of the show, but the team itself is nameless), that was just a provisional step before his JL membership, and I don't think it was necessary to the Light's plans. After all, they had Superboy, M'Gann, and Artemis in their clutches, or so they thought. I suspect the reason they summoned those three to Santa Prisca was to get them to use the Starro (?) mind-control devices to infect the Team at the same time Red Arrow infected the League. (Although I'm not sure why they needed all three of them.)

I was looking up the actress who played hawkgirl, because she was on Veronica's Closet the other night, and the tiptop of her IMDB listing was "The producers of the Justice League wanted Hawkgirl to sound alien, so Maria was hired for her accent."

Lets just think about that.

Latino's are aliens.

Excellent episode again. I was grinning that the ambush took place in the Smokey Mountains since I live less than 20 miles from the National Park. ;)

Nice to see Icon and Rocket, I think she'll make a great addition to the team and he seems like a good fit for the League - stoic and powerful. It was funny to see her reactions to things that she didn't know about.

On the one hand, they dealt with the various blackmails for half of the team really quickly... on the other hand, I'm glad it was done organically, that they all explained on their own initiative and not after being confronted by it. Also thought it was a really nice touch that it was Connor that first opened up and not M'Gann. It's funny how Robin's protection of Artemis' identity mirrors Batman's protection of Captain Marvel's; like father like son eh? And that he was implicitly trusting of her to be her own person anyway.

LOVED the reveal of Roy as the mole - never saw it coming at all, and feeding him the idea in the first place would naturally make him and others look anywhere but at him.

Italians are Latinos.

Umm, no. As Wikipedia puts it:

I thought he was joking there.

Wow... that's pretty much exactly what happened when we get things explained in the finale, especially the bit about the drive to branch off on his own in the first place. There's one piece you're missing, but I'll leave that unspoiled for now. ;)

It was funny to see [Rocket's] reactions to things that she didn't know about.

Yeah, adding her to the team was a handy way to work in a recap of the important plot points just as things started coming to a head.

Good to know.

I'm skimming over everything in the thread right now to avoid potential spoilers about the finale, so forgive me if someone else has said this.

I think the cool thing about Red Arrow being the mole, at least from a writing perspective, is that I had dismissed him as a suspect because he wasn't on the team. I was trying to figure out which one it was among everyone else. Hats off to the YJ writers for that piece of misdirection.

And, yeah, I enjoyed this episode a lot.

I agree about Riddler and Joker, though. These aren't versions of those characters that I think are effective, but that's OK, really. I think it's better to have experimental takes on familiar characters, some of which may not work out, than to just have same ol' same ol' all the time.

This past week's episode was awesome. I really like how things went down, it was very unexpected that everyone would all come clean. I had an inkling who the true mole was, but still wasn't prepared for them to strike so soon.

Glad to see Icon and Rocket get some attention. I used to read their comic back in the day and it's good to see them back.

Not much to add other than Tony Todd has such an awesome voice. I really don't care for the design of the Joker or the Riddler. They look really dorky and not all that supervillainish.

I own all of the core milestone books. Icon and Rocket are mostly how I pictured them if they where to be animated. She was completely in character and u hope they keep her there and show her intelligence more. Also I wonder if they will show some of her backstory as a teenage mother. Also as a tribute to mcduffie they could throw in a few of icons rouges gallery to give life to even more story possibilies.

Joker underwhelmed me as well but I like savage as the guy in charge of the villains, I wonder when their egos will take over and they start fighting amongst themselves.

And the real Roy Harper is missing an arm. Please keep him away from cats...

Anyway, a pretty good finale, and it's good that they explained that the JL was limited because they were remote-controlled by Klarion rather than using the full extent of their own skills. Otherwise the Team wouldn't have had a chance. (But even under remote control, Batman was still virtually unstoppable.)

The main disappointment is that the Superman/Superboy reconciliation was so cursory. I would've liked to hear an explanation from Superman of why he was so afraid to accept Connor.
