Aqua is great, hilarious pop that doesn't take itself seriously at all. Very colorful.
Why anyone would be embarrassed to listen to anything I don't know.

Seriously? Why would you feel shame for knowing a band's name? Or is this all just an exercise in smugness about taste.

Back in 1997 my friends and I liked to poke fun at Aqua and bands like them because it was the flavor of the day to call certain solo artists and groups out for their perceived cheesiness and corniness(re: "Macarena"). I'm not a smug bastard about music... I'm a person who loves some pretty weird and eclectic people in the industry. I'm one of the only people I've ever met who loves both the Blue Man Group as well as Barry Manilow. I'll listen to just about anything really. Aqua's been the brunt of jokes over the years for their image and being a One-Hit Wonder but I'll take them over most rap or country any day of the week.

My late mother and father adored John Denver and so do I. Never be ashamed to like Denver. The man was one of the nicest, kindest men in the music industry and crafted some of the most memorable music of his era. I still regret that he's no longer with us and making new music.
^ I was recently reminded of him when I was in Baltimore last week, they play "Thank God I'm A Country Boy" at the 7th inning stretch during every Orioles home game. (in one of his last public appearances before his death, John attended one such game and danced on top of the O's dugout! )
)it's about liking songs that you know aren't of a particularly high quality or especially artistic. There's nothing "smug" about it. It's like enjoying "The Fifth Element" while acknowledging that it's not "The Godfather."
Some music is just fun to listen to, even if you realize it's not great music.

Pretty much every other boy band track of the late '90s and early 00's could rival the vacuum of outer space itself for sucking power, but I'm standing by this one. Even a broken clock's right on occasion.
Well, I always feel kinda guilty with this one, because in one way it's cheesy, but on the other it's one of the great rock out with your cock out slabs of rock-pop ever put to vinyl:

As a kid in the early-to-mid '80s I sang this to myself a whole lot...when I wasn't singing Beatles and Michael Jackson songs. Most of my school buddies even then thought this song was dumber than dirt, but I've always loved it. It's an acquired taste but it's catchier and better than a lot of today's pop music.
