    Sure is!

And don't worry. It gets less scary as time goes on. Hey at least on the server you don't die for good. :)

I've been trying to mine, or rather just get over my fear of going underground. All the noises in the walls are not helping! Most stressful game ever!

    Also, torches every two feet.

At least you don't have to worry about any creepers :) Otherwise, I'm sure you would never set foot underground :)

I had similar problems once. I had built tunnels everywhere and got resources through branch mining, and it got to the point where I had so isolated myself from monsters that I was terrified to face them. I was even scared to chop down trees in daylight in case a monster came out of a cave. It sounds stupid now that I think about it.

I resolved it by playing several of Vechs' Super Hostile maps, thereby forcing myself to confront monsters in large numbers. When you can take on a Creeper drop trap with stone tools and no armour, and not die in the process, you realise there's nothing to fear in vanilla Minecraft.

Except cave spiders, fuck those guys. :scream:

I've been meaning to get back on the server, but every time I try I find myself an update ahead of the server. Instead I spent the time finishing the renovations of my mob trap, now its exterior is made from stone blocks and coloured wool, which is much nicer than the dirt/cobble look it had before.

Its just a matter of getting used to them. I've gotten tot he point where I'll go outside after dark just to kill monsters and rake up XP.

So have you upgraded your weapons and armor yet? A suit of good armor and an iron or diamond sword makes life a whole lot safe.

I can never bring myself to play a hostile map. It's not even a rational thing since I will have my items restored if I die. I hate killing things. And I hate the disgusting things that they drop. I have all this rotting flesh and spider eyes and such in my inventory and they gross me out.

Oh do come back to the server! The guys have been showing me their creations on there and I think it's amazing to see what everyone has made. You can show me around too! I'm "hivedev" on there, in case you ever see me online. I live near the giant Christmas tree. :)

My husband kept making fun of my wooden tools so he shamed me into making some stone ones. All my tools are stone except for one iron pickaxe that I use to mine precious things.

I haven't done a ton of mining, but I found diamonds today! First time for that. I was thinking about making an iron armor set but I am worried it will just get beat up and wasted immediately. I don't even know what to do with the things I found, I'm just hoarding them in a trunk. Sometimes I just open it and look at them because I'm happy I have something more precious than blocks of dirt.

Oh! I also changed my skin so my person looks different now.

Yep, again I was the same way. But irons become so common now that I don't mind using it for armor and tools. Heck, I've come up from really big caves with an entire stack of iron ore.
And really, in the long run its hard to beat a diamond sword for dishing out the hurt. :)

Maybe you should consider switching to a bow and sniping monsters.

Heh. You'll be swimming in diamonds and redstone before you know it, if you find a mineshaft and take time to explore it thoroughly. Whoever left them behind sure didn't spend a lot of effort to mine all the precious minerals out of it. ;)

Though you may have to head out to the frontier to find them. We've done a pretty good job of cleaning out the mines close to civilization.

I prefer saving my arrows to shoot at RM.

I've been digging out by my new little village. If you go past the trees, I made the entrance to my own little mine. I keep coming across lava, though. And gravel. Ugh.

Edit: I want to go exploring in the wilderness but I'm too much of a chicken to do it on my own. Anyone want to go exploring with me? We could pick a direction and just run off into nowhere!

I'd love to go exploring with you, Kes! Maybe next time we're both on there :)

There's a Christmas tree? Shows how long it has been since I've been on the server. I tried logging on a few weeks back because I was showing someone the game and wanted to show them some of the amazing things others have built, but I was an update ahead of the server again.

My main problem is that I have a sentimental attachment to my single-player world and I keep thinking of things that I want to add to it, and by the time I finish those projects I get bored of the game and play something else for a few months. I want to be active on the server, but it just never seems to happen.

Actually, the Christmas tree was built by Robert sometime around Christmas. I wanted to see if we could build a huge tree in town.

I just showed TheGodBen around my ridiculously primitive creations but I'm hoping he'll stick around. You guys have all made such awesome things with awesome views. I built ... a shack in the forest.

Still, I'm having so much fun. I'm not sure if I'll be on much starting Wednesday. I'm going back to IL for a little over a week and I haven't decided if I am going to bring my laptop home with me. I'd rather not, because it's massive, but I might need to so I can do work. We'll see. Either way I'll at least come online to show my brother all the crazy stuff you guys have made though. I like showing off other people's work, like it makes me awesome by association or something.

Well we all hope you'll stick around.

And don't feel bad. We ALL started with a shack. At first.

And then we found ridiculous super-projects to build... I for one intend to create a redstone-powered artificial intelligence that can pass the Turing test ;)

It's still better than my first "home" on the server, a hole I dug in the ground because I got lost several km from spawn and needed to mine for iron and redstone so I could make a compass.

And like I said, the houses you're building look much better than anything I've ever built in the game. I don't have an artistic bone in my body so most of the things I build end up being rectangles or circles. My most interesting builds tend to be things that I build into the landscape.

I'd be pleased just to update the rail stations like I promised I would six months ago. :alienblush:

I'm partially kidding. I do intend to create a redstone computer kind of thing sometime in the future, but an intelligence that can pass a Turing test would take a loooong time to build out of essentially ones and zeros.
