Guys, your flying cars are here

Flying 'cars' already exist – they're called light aircraft; the only problem with them is that in order to operate one safely, one must possess a triple-digit IQ, making them inaccessible to the general public.

Let's see:
1. It doesn't have five seats.
2. It can't lift off vertically.
3. It flies too slowly.
4. It drives too slowly.
5. It doesn't fly too far away.
6. It's illegal and dangerous to lift off in the middle of the traffic.
7. It requires a pilot's license.
8. It's too light so you better don't find yourself in a car crash.
9. Crossing borders with this thing is legally complicated.
10. It's neither electric, nor fusion-powered.
11. It doesn't have an autopilot working during driving, lift off, flying, and landing.
12. It looks too nerdy to attract females.
13. It's not a submarine.

Why would I be satisfied with it?

I suspect that most people will not be satisfied with any flying vehicles that aren't like the ones in The Fifth Element.

It's not a flying car, it's a driving plane. :p
Technically it's a "roadable aircraft." Dozens of them have been designed and built since the 1930s, and none has ever been put into mass production. Why? Because they're totally impractical, obviously. Yet people keep on "inventing" these silly things.

These things pop up like clockwork every few years, just to vanish wothout a trace soon after. Some of the more famous attempts here:

Anyway, I always like to post this video whenever the whole flying car thing comes up..

Because some people have too much time on their hands?

Here's a VTOL one:

Obviously, a drivable fold-up helicopter.

Edit: Scratch that. It's not a VTOL. Its rotor blades are not engine powered, but powered by the aerodynamic forces of the rushing air when it's moving forward propelled by a standard aircraft-like propeller on it's back.

It's actually an aircraft-helicopter hybrid. Looks like a helicopter, but essentially behaves like an airplane. Interesting nevertheless.

^ I was going to say, old news. The real break through will be when genuine hover technology without conspicuous propellers or wings is developed.

I think I'll stick with one of these for now:
