The third season of Voyager kicks heavy duty ass

It's much better than the first two. No more Kazon BS. They would have to be the worst villans in all of Star Trek. They are inept and angry all the time for no reason, and the only interesting thing about them is that they don't like women. Really, Is that the best bad guy that the shows writers could come up with???

Anyway

Third season is awesome. Time travel, religeous experiences and the doctor - the Doctor, what a champ! - reprogramming himself to become more awesome. I liked the irritating angry doctor of the first two seasons but this Doctor +1 is all that and more

I haven't seen past the 24th episode, the one where the crew are transported one by one to a prison ship. Can't wait to see whats in the next episode

Third season gushing plz

I don't think the 3rd season is very well regarded around here and its probably my least favorite season. They dropped the Kazon plot but then instead of trying to go in some other direction with a new continuing story, they just morphed the show into full on TNG mode and the crew had wacky adventures each week.......except unlike later seasons, a lot of the episodes were pure garbage or really mediocre.
I mean, are episodes like "False Profits", "Future's End", "The Q and the Grey", "Macrocosm", "Coda", "Rise", "Favorite Son" the really best they could manage? Thank god things turned around at the end of the season and then into season 4 because if the best story a whole room of writers can think up is "Ensign Kim goes to a planet where ladies want to suck the life out of him" or "The Q are fighting a war...and like its the civil war..but nothing makes sense" then the show's really in trouble.

No way. Those were some of the most entertaining episodes

(I knew there was something fishy with that Ensign Kim planet thing before he did ... haha)

And future's end was terrific. I've always had a soft spot for that sort of time travel story since the fourth movie, which still sets the standard for starfleet people inthe 20rth century.

Flashback - DS9 does a loving tribute to TOS using cutting edge technology, Voyager does some technobabble shit featuring an alien parasite in Tuvok's brain :barf:
False Profits - tried to be funny, totally failed
The Swarm - Oh look some pointless aliens of the week we'll never see again
Future's End - absolute BS storyline, retconned the entire Star Trek universe so that all of their technological advancements in the computer age came from some psycho who found future technology (way to break the Trek universe off from our own even more). It was also really sloppy writing and plotting "THERE'S NO TIME!"...yeah whatever its not like you're capable of time travel or anything is it?
The Q and the Grey - Total crap. At the end Tom walks up behind a Q and puts a gun to him to get him to back down.......in what fricking universe does that make sense? The Q are all powerful remember? ADOYYY!!!
Macrocosm - Probably took the writers about 3 seconds to think this one up "Ah duuhhh, let's do Genesis again but this time we'll have less technobabble and more running around!"
Coda - Janeway watches her own funeral where everyone gushes about how great she was......except its all in her head. Implication: Janeway loves herself. A half baked mish-mash of "Cause and Effect" and "The Next Phase" where the first 20 minutes have no bearing on the overall story.
Blood Fever - B'Ellana gets the ponn far.....wait what? No one can watch this episode and still feel clean afterwards
Rise - dull writing, dull sets, dull lighting, dull direction - this series desperately needed a technical overhaul which thank god it got at the end of season 3 going into season 4.
Favorite Son - stupid and uninteresting.
Darkling - The doctor becomes "eeevviillll". Wow great writing there Braga and Menosky, really stands proudly along stuff like "Darmok" and "Frame of Mind"

Everything from "Before and After" onwards is really good with the exception of "Displaced" which was merely quite good. Season 3 was a big lump of aimless, meandering turd. Jeri Taylor's showrunning was freaking awful - they had Kes and Neelix broke up and never even dealt with it. Thank God the show got better because VOY was well behind the quality of TNG and DS9 in its 3rd season.

You're too judgemental for your own good. But you do raise one excellent point without meaning to.

Kes's new hair style is appalling.

I'm not being too harsh on it at all - all my criticisms are completely valid and things that shouldn't be in any good episode. Compared to TNG/DS9 season 3 and VOY season 4, season 3 is pretty bad. You'll probably see that once you start watching season 4 of Voyager and you'll see how much better the writing is.

It'll be hard to top episodes like Future's End ... but if you think season four is better, bring it on! Cant wait

(I'm serious.)

The writers were told to come up with an allegory of the African American gang problem in Los Angeles.

"The Kazon"

I like season 3 but I think that season 2 was better. They did seem to lose direction after dropping the Kazon and there are too many mediocre episodes compared to season 1 and 2.

But still it's a good season with lot of great episodes like "Warlord", "The Swarm", "Darkling", "Before And After", "Future's End", "Remember", "Fair Trade" and many others.

As for Kes, I like the short hair better. It's more a trademark for the character, more Kes so to say.

And I don't like season 4 at all. For me, Voyager ended with "Worst Case Scenario".

And future's end was terrific. I've always had a soft spot for that sort of time travel story since the fourth movie, which still sets the standard for starfleet people inthe 20rth century.

I've seen Future's End more than any other VOY ep I think, very enjoyable. If you love time travel than VOY is your series :D

I vastly prefer Kes in short hair.

Did someone say heavy duty ass?

"Warlord" was Jennifer Lein's crowning moment on Voyager. If only Kes as herself wasn't so damn bland!

"Future's End" was fantastic, light hearted fun. Loved it. (yeah, inner nerd says "why dont they slingshot back to the future?", but.... then there'd be no show)

"Macrocosm". Action Janeway going Die Hard against gigantic germs that have taken over Voyager? LOVED IT.

"Rise" - loved the giant elevator concept. Execution not great.

"Before and After" - I'm a sucker for alternate futures, so I really liked this. Ikept waiting for the EMH to don the toupee in later seasons. Why didn't it happen? Would've been amusing.

"Flashback" - a cute crossover to STVI. Nostalgic Sulu-fuelled fun.

I wouldn't call many of the episodes true classics, but they were FUN. 42 minute bursts of engaging entertainment, which I've enjoyed enough to rewatch repeatedly.:bolian:

^ Oh god, me too, that was an awesome episode. And the one where the doc started growing evil too. It's really refreshing to see these actors play a little bit outside of their characters.

Warlord Kes was one awesome butch bitch

I really like "Future's End", mostly because of the villain. :techman:

Although this site obviously view him in a different light! ;)
